Situation

This technical note lists the product enhancements in version 14.1 of Reflection for IBM, Reflection for HP, Reflection for UNIX and OpenVMS, Reflection X, and Reflection FTP Client.

This technical note includes the following sections:

Reflection for IBM

The following features are new in version 14.1 of Reflection for IBM.

  • Configure connections using an HTTP proxy server.
  • Enable or disable the LISTDS command for IND$FILE transfer.
  • Configure Reflection to allow a non-alpha leading character in the host file name for a CICS file transfer.
  • Use the new Retain Selection option to copy text between host screens.
  • Enable or disable the default reference to a shared macros file.
  • Configure which SSL or TLS version to use.
  • Enable certificate checking using OCSP and configure the Reflection Certificate Manager to contact one or more OCSP servers.
  • Set Reflection to enforce DOD PKI standards.
  • Improved multi-byte character support.
  • Updates to ensure compliance with Section 508 accessibility standards.

Reflection for HP, UNIX and OpenVMS

The following features are new in version 14.1 of these Reflection applications:

  • Configure connections using an HTTP proxy server.
  • Configure events that are triggered before a connection is made.
  • Use new options for configuring clipboard and display handling
  • Enable or disable the default reference to a shared macros file.
  • Control Reflection programmatically from a host by using host-initiated commands in VBA macros. (Previously, this feature was available only with Reflection Basic scripts.)
  • Configure Reflection to clear the user name from memory immediately after a connection closes.
  • Use new programming keywords for setting the Secure Shell password and viewing Secure Shell error messages.
  • Configure which SSL or TLS version to use.
  • Enable certificate checking using OCSP and configure the Reflection Certificate Manager to contact one or more OCSP servers.
  • Set Reflection to enforce DOD PKI standards.
  • Improved multi-byte character support.
  • Updates to ensure compliance with Section 508 accessibility standards.

Reflection X

The following features are new in version 14.1 of Reflection X.

  • Now supports the X Render extension, which is enabled by default.
  • Now supports SHAPE X server extension version 1.1 and has been enhanced to expose an Input region.
  • Now supports the GLX extension version 1.4.
  • Now supports up to 256 client connections.
  • Manage whether or not IPv6 is used for Telnet, SSH, and XDMCP using the new setting “Influence how Telnet, SSH, and XDMCP connections are made when an IPv6 listening socket is enabled,†which is available from the View Settings dialog box.
  • Set a timeout option for XDMCP from the command line using the new –timeout parameter.
  • Contains a separate installer for 64-bit versions to run natively on 64-bit computers.
  • Enable or disable use of cached font server fonts.
  • Assign template status to a server settings file (*.rxs) using the new template startup option.
  • Use new client and server templates to configure connections to additional host and client types.
  • Configure the X window display to ignore the Windows taskbar and fill the entire area of your primary monitor.
  • Enable or disable taskbar flashing.
  • Improved options for setting screen width and height.
  • Enhancements to some warning dialog boxes improve usability.
  • Configure Reflection X to compute display number dynamically to support Citrix and Remote Desktop sessions.
  • Enable certificate checking using OCSP and configure the Reflection Certificate Manager to contact one or more OCSP servers.
  • Set Reflection to enforce DOD PKI standards.
  • Improved multi-byte character support.
  • Updates to ensure compliance with Section 508 accessibility standards.

Reflection FTP Client

The following features are new in version 14.1 of the Reflection FTP Client.

  • Improved support for running under Windows 7.
  • Improved support for transfers managed by Attachmate FileXpress.
  • Improved handling of very large files.
  • Preserve timestamps and file attributes during SFTP transfers.
  • Configure global default file attributes and permissions for uploads and downloads.
  • Query for download and upload options before each transfer.
  • Specify a SITE command to be executed before a file is uploaded.
  • Use the file view filter for SFTP connections.
  • Configure connections using an HTTP proxy server.
  • Configure connections using IPv6 addresses.
  • Launch a file editor directly from the server pane display.
  • Configure which SSL or TLS version to use.
  • Configure SSL/TLS connections through a NAT proxy server.
  • Configure SSH forwarding of FTP data more easily using new settings on the Security Properties dialog box.
  • Include passwords when configuring scripted connections using the FTP Open method.
  • Updates to ensure compliance with Section 508 accessibility standards.

Secure Shell

The following new features in Secure Shell apply to these Reflection applications:

  • Additional options for customizing multi-hop connections.
  • Improved smart card support.
  • Improved support for using certificates in the Reflection Key Agent.
  • Support for arcfour128, arcfour256, aes128-ctr, aes192-ctr, and aes256-ctr ciphers.
  • Support for hmac-sha256 and hmac-sha512 Message Authentication Code (MAC) algorithms.
  • Configure Secure Shell connections through an HTTP proxy server.
  • Use Windows environment variables in configuration file settings.
  • Manage whether or not IPv6 is used for Telnet, SSH, and XDMCP connections using the new setting, “Influence how Telnet, SSH, and XDMCP connections are made when an IPv6 listening socket is enabled.†This setting is available from the View Settings dialog box.
  • Choose whether to add a changed host key to the known hosts file or overwrite the existing key.
  • Configure the client to check the host port in the known hosts file in addition to checking the host public key.
  • Set environment variables on the remote host.
  • Specify one or more commands to execute on the remote server.
  • Specify which key exchange algorithms the client supports, and the order of preference.
  • Secure Shell error messages now include much more detailed information that can be used to facilitate troubleshooting.
  • Use getext and setext with the sftp command line utility to view and set file extensions that will use ASCII transfer.
  • Configure Secure Shell sessions to open a tunnel without opening a terminal session.
  • Specify the signature hash used during public key authentication.
  • Export the private key of a public/private key pair.
  • Enable certificate checking using OCSP and configure the Reflection Certificate Manager to contact one or more OCSP servers.

Supported Platforms

Discontinued Features

  • Reflection is no longer supported on Windows 2000 and will not install on this operating system.
  • The following features are no longer included with any Reflection products: Reflection LPD Server, Reflection Virtual Desktop, Reflection TimeSync, Reflection Ping. If you have any of these utilities installed on your system, they are removed when you upgrade to 14.1.
  • Reflection NFS is no longer included with Reflection products, and you should not install Reflection 14.1 directly over any existing Reflection installation that includes Reflection NFS. If you need to continue using Reflection NFS Client, refer to KB 7021728 before installing Reflection 14.1.

Note: Reflection 14.1 products cannot be installed in the same directory as the Reflection NFS Client 14.0.x. If Reflection NFS is detected, the Reflection 14.1 installation will stop and you will receive the following error, "Installation of this product will be compromised because of incompatibility with one or more products." For more information and to work around this error, see KB 7021728.

  • LK450 keyboard support is no longer included with Reflection products. If you installed this feature with a previous version of Reflection, it remains functional when you upgrade to 14.1.
