Reflection for IBM 2011 R3 and Reflection for UNIX and OpenVMS 2011 R3

New Features R3

Installation Features:

  • Reflection 2011 R3 has been tested with and will function in the Microsoft .NET 4.5 environment.

API and Macro Improvements:

  • The VBA version that ships with Reflection 2011 R3 has been updated to 6.5.10.54 to address a vulnerability in VBA (MS12-046).
  • Support was added for embedding a Terminal User Control (TUC) in a Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) application.
  • Support was added to run macros developed in the following products:
    Jolly Giant QWS
    OpenText (Hummingbird) HostExplorer
  • Several enhancements were added to the VBA and .NET APIs, including:
    • Sample code for the following Frame elements: WindowState, WindowSize, WindowLocation, WindowMode, and GetViewByTitleText.
    • Properties to change the View tab color including: ActiveTabForegroundColor, ActiveTabBackgroundColor, InactiveTabForegroundColor, and InactiveTabBackgroundColor.
    • Methods to open and save a screen history file.

  • The Tandem HLLAPI interface was updated to allow multiple HLLAPI sessions from within a single Reflection VBA macro.

Tandem Improvements:

  • The Non-Stop (Guardian API) Tandem host type was added to the Reflection FTP Client.
  • Support was added for Backup Hosts and load balancing in Tandem environments.

VT Improvements:

  • Reflection for Secure IT session files (*.R3W) are now supported.

User Interface Improvements:

  • The "Undo" option is now listed in the Edit menu for Browser mode views.

Other Improvements:

  • The Symantec Endpoint Protection software no longer identifies the Reflection full product, service packs, or hotfix installs as a virus.
  • The setup program now detects older versions of Reflection (non-MSI installs like version 6, 7, and 8). If it detects one of these versions, it stops the installation and prompts for removal.
  • The Custom Detection Rules (credit card regular expressions) can now be edited for all PCI/DSS PAN detection algorithms.

Resolved Issues R3

API Issues:

  • Recorded (sub) macros now get unique file names so that users can run all recorded macros in non-English languages.
  • A performance issue that occurred when using the .RunMacro method to execute a macro in a module with numerous subroutines has been resolved.
  • Performance when running legacy-Reflection macros has been improved.
  • An Express Logon Facility (ELF) macro no longer has to disconnect the Host session to run a second time.
  • An unhandled exception no longer occurs in the AttachmateEmulationFrame.EXE if VBA is not installed.
  • A textual representation of the current host screen is added to the mail body by the VBA method CreateNewEmailMessage(null).

Hotspot Issues:

  • An unhandled exception no longer occurs from a hotspot that tries to open a new session tab from a malformed URL like “w w w.xyz.com”.
  • A hotspot that uses an action of "Open URL" with a specific web address to launch the default browser now connects correctly to a second website.

Installation Issues:

  • The installation of Reflection Service Packs or Hotfixes, or a Windows Repair, no longer resets the application.settings file back to defaults for new user accounts.
  • Major upgrades applied to Reflection no longer remove the HKCU\Software\WRQReflection keys.

Keyboard Issues:

  • Legacy Reflection 3270 keyboard maps now send the CLEAR function for the Scroll Lock key instead of Help.
  • 3270 function keys now work correctly when editing on a Host screen with DBCS fields.
  • Keyboard maps with keys mapped using TransmitANSI() in legacy Reflection (such as the Logical Not) now work properly when loaded.
  • Keys mapped to nothing in legacy Reflection (such as PrintScreen and Alt+PrintScreen) now work correctly.
  • Keyboard mapping of the Ctrl+PrintScreen function originally done in legacy Reflection now works properly.
  • In a VT session, the Ctrl+Shift+2 to Ctrl+Shift+8 key sequences now send the same keys as a VT Terminal.

Secure Shell Issues:

  • The public key upload utility now correctly identifies OpenVMS version 5.5 servers during uploads.
  • Agent forwarding now continues to work after the CAC card is removed and re-inserted.
  • Agent forwarding works correctly when using a public key from the CAC card.
  • Stdin and Stdout redirection improvements have been made when you use SSH.EXE interactively from a command prompt.
  • The Reflection Key Agent now correctly handles connections that use certificates for client authentication. When the "Prefer SSH key signature over certificate signature" setting has been cleared, the Key Agent no longer converts the certificate to a key.

Security Related Issues:

  • This release includes a fix for a potential OpenSSL ASN1 BIO denial of service vulnerability reported in CVE-2012-2110. See Security Alerts - Reflection Desktop for details.
  • Reflection SSL and Secure Shell connections now correctly handle certificate validation where the validation chain includes a SHA-256 signed certificate from an intermediate CA. This resolves a problem that led to the error message "(108) Server certificate path validation failed."
  • Intermittent issues validating certificates via OCSP when not using the NextUpdate field have been corrected.

Tandem Issues:

  • Session menus have been updated with appropriate choices for 6530 sessions in the Browser view mode.
  • All 6530 terminal document settings now have mnemonic keys assigned.
  • A 6530 session correctly handles keyboard-interactive "challenge" messages from the server if no prompt is specified.
  • The Reflection Non-Stop Add-on now correctly registers the *.RD6 file extension in Microsoft Windows.

User Interface Issues:

  • Portions of the Reflection terminal session no longer flicker with Host updates in Windows 7 on slower PCs or when running under virtual environments.
  • Japanese characters now display properly when scrolling or inserting a line in ISPF.
  • The Reflection "Start Page" of recent documents is now displayed when the last Host session tab is closed.
  • The correct background color is displayed in SCO-ANSI sessions that are cleared.
  • Reflection now uses the Windows system default font, instead of Segoe, for Japanese Windows 7 so the dialogs can be sized properly.
  • Theme file updates are now saved correctly if changes are made outside of the "Manage Themes" dialog box.
  • The incomplete German translation issue for "Clear Recent Documents List" button has been corrected.
  • Performance has been substantially improved for 5250 sessions when displaying large amounts of data.

Other Issues:

  • Settings in the EXTRA! *.EDP session file that contain references to a fixed PC drive and path now load the specified feature correctly.
  • When Microsoft Windows 7 User Account Control (UAC) has been disabled, the Reflection permissions files (*.access) for Standard Users have the same behavior as running on Microsoft Windows XP.
  • Underscore characters instead of periods are now used in the key file name when uploading a public key to a VMS host.
  • A UNIX session no longer generates an error message "Could not read file C:\...\untitled0.rdox" if installed from a Reflection X product.
  • IND$FILE file transfer now correctly recognizes a TSO screen with two command prompts (the ISPF alternate command shell).
  • An issue where “A write to display memory was out of bounds..." error could occur on a specific sequence of 3270 screens when pressing the ENTER key too fast has been resolved.
  • Reflection 2011 R3 includes various improvements to memory usage and performance.

Reflection X Advantage 4.2

If you run Reflection X Advantage on a Windows platform, Reflection X Advantage is included as a feature in the Windows installer.

If you run Reflection X Advantage on a non-Windows-based platform, download and install the file appropriate for your operating system.

New Features 4.2

  • You can now create and edit customized keyboard maps and apply these to your Reflection X Advantage server settings. Reflection X Advantage includes a default keyboard map that automatically handles a wide variety of characters on multiple keyboards. If the default map doesn't produce a character you need, or you want to add other keyboard mapping assignments, you can now create and edit your own keyboard maps. Keyboard mapping features include changing the behavior of individual keys, adding support for additional characters, and using keyboard shortcuts to send text or other key sequences to your X client.
  • Multiple administrators can now manage the same Reflection X Manager for domains settings. Each administrator can now log in using his or her own credentials and view and edit the modifications made by other administrators.
  • Reflection X Advantage is now supported on IBM AIX.
  • The rxmigrate command line utility supports a new -xc option for migrating Exceed X server settings (*.xcfg).
  • The UNIX InstallAnywhere installer now includes a checkbox option to install the Remote Session Services feature. This helps simplify setup to support configuring standalone X Manager sessions for improved performance over a slow network.
  • Reflection X Advantage now uses Java 7 on most platforms, resulting in better performance and better IPv6 support.

Resolved Issues 4.2

  • Open menus now close correctly when you drag the main window instead of remaining visible and detached from the main window.
  • Logging off from the operating system now proceeds without warning messages when Reflection X Manager and X clients are running. This enables users who are running with X Manager minimized to the tray to close their sessions without having to respond to Reflection X Advantage prompts.
  • Domain authentication now works correctly on UNIX hosts with Remote Session Services installed.
  • Reflection X Advantage running with X Clients displayed on the desktop now correctly handles client windows with an unspecified (0,0) location.
  • Tivoli client on AIX no longer shrinks to a tiny size when displayed in a Reflection X Manager session with clients running on the desktop.

Reflection X 14.1 SP2 Hotfix 4

Reflection X 14.1 SP2 Hotfix 4 includes the following resolved issues.

Resolved Issues

  • Running an OpenWindows session with the Reflection X Window mode set to "Microsoft Windows desktop" no longer leaves image artifacts on the Windows desktop when you move the X client.
  • LBX now works correctly. This restores functionality that had been available in earlier versions.
  • Reflection X 14.1 SP2 Hotfix 4 also includes Resolved Secure Shell Issues.

Reflection FTP Client 15.5

New Features 15.5

  • The Non-Stop (Guardian API) Tandem host type was added to the Reflection FTP Client.
  • Ipswitch WS_FTP configuration files can now be imported into an existing Reflection FTP Client settings file.
  • Columns for Owner and Group are now included in the server pane display in the Details view of the Server Pane.

  • Agent forwarding now continues to work after the CAC card is removed and re-inserted.
  • Agent forwarding works correctly when using a public key from the CAC card.
  • Stdin and Stdout redirection improvements have been made when you use SSH.EXE interactively from a command prompt.

Installation Release Notes R3

Note the following .NET requirements in Reflection 2011 R3.

Using the Attachmate Installation Program on Windows 8, Windows 7, or Windows Vista

By default, Windows 8, Windows 7, or Windows Vista have the necessary base level of the .NET Framework needed for installation. If you use the Attachmate Installation Program (setup.exe) to install Reflection 2011 on these platforms, it verifies whether the system has the appropriate .NET Framework and automatically installs it if necessary. (This applies only for installs that use the Attachmate Installation Program. It does not apply when Reflection 2011 is installed directly with MSI.)

Reflection 2011 has several optional features that require the Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0. If these features are selected for the primary Reflection 2011 installation and this framework is not already installed, the Attachmate Installation Program automatically installs it after the primary installation is complete. Both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of this software are distributed with Reflection 2011.

Note: If you are using Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R1 and the .NET Framework 4.0 is required, you will need to make sure it is installed on the server. The Attachmate Installation Program does not install .NET on this server.

Installing Directly with MSI

If you install Reflection 2011 directly with MSI and the Full .NET 4 Framework is not installed, the Windows Installer will display a warning dialog box and terminate. If the product features you are installing do not require .NET 4, you may add the SKIPDOTNET=1 property to the command line to bypass this test condition.

Installing on Windows XP

If you are installing Reflection 2011 on Windows XP, you must make sure that the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 SP1 (or greater) is installed before installing Reflection. This applies to installs performed with either the MSI or setup.exe and regardless of which product features are to be installed. If this minimum requirement is not met when installing on Windows XP, a warning dialog will be displayed and the install will terminate. (The setup.exe program assumes the required .NET framework exists on Vista and Windows 7 or higher). The section above describing Installing Directly with MSI and handling the .NET 4 requirement also applies to installing on Windows XP.
