Environment

GWAVA 4 (all builds) on NetWare and Linux

Situation

No outbound and/or inbound external mailflow (internal mailflow good)

Resolution

There are numerous reasons for not having mailflow.  Follow these steps to narrow down the problem:

1)  Where is your mail?

The following article describes, in detail, GroupWise and GWAVA mailflow when using a GWAVA 4 GWIA scanner:

There are a few directories that you'll want to check for backed up mail when using a GWIA scanner:

...\gwia\3rd\receive - this is where inbound messages are placed by your GWIA before GWAVA processes them.  Mail backing up here could indicate a problem with GWAVA.  See:  https://support.microfocus.com/kb/doc.php?id=7019658

...\gwia\receive - this is where inbound messages are placed by GWAVA after processing.  The GWIA will then pass the message on to the MTA.  If mail is backing up here, this indicates a possible problem with your GWIA.

...\gwia\3rd\send - this is where outbound messages are placed by GWAVA after processing.  The GWIA will then send the message out.  If mail is backing up here, this indicates a possible problem with your GWIA.

...\gwia\send - this is where outbound messages are placed by your GWIA before GWAVA processes them.  Mail backing up here could indicate a problem with GWAVA.  See:  https://support.microfocus.com/kb/doc.php?id=7019659

When using an MTA scanner:

...\[domain]\mslocal\gwvscan\4 - this is where messages are placed before GWAVA scans them.  If mail is backed up here, this could indicate a problem with GWAVA.  See:  https://support.microfocus.com/kb/doc.php?id=7019783

Continue to step 2 if no messages are backing up in above directories.

2)  Is GWAVA scanning messages?

You can check your Statistics page in your GWAVA Configuration Manager or just take a look at your GWAVA Scanner Console (NetWare).

If no messages are being scanned by GWAVA, and no mail is queued to be scanned in the above directories, then GWAVA isn't getting any mail.  Make sure all appropriate GroupWise modules are loaded (GWIA, MTA, POA, etc).

Continue to step 3 if messages are being scanned by GWAVA.

3)  What is GWAVA doing with your mail?

Your GWVGWIA Console (NetWare) or your GWVGWIA logs (...\GWAVA4\services\logs\gwvgwia\support) will tell you whether your messages were blocked or clean.

If your messages are clean, then GWAVA did not block them and your issue is probably GroupWise related.

If your messages are blocked, then we need to determine what they were blocked for, in order to adjust the appropriate GWAVA settings to correct the issue.  The GWAVA support logs will tell us what events were triggered.  The following article describes how to read GWAVA logs:
