How To Use the Reflection Desktop Settings Window

This video shows how to use the Reflection Desktop Settings window to configure sessions and how to navigate the window.

You’ll set up most of the settings for your Reflection Desktop sessions in the Settings Window  To open this window, you’ll need to have a session open in the Reflection Desktop workspace.

When you open the window, you’ll see the settings that apply to your session.
The types of settings depend on the type of session you are setting up. The Settings window looks a little different for a VT session than it does for an IBM session.

The settings are grouped with other related settings.
Host Connection includes the connection settings and security for your session.
Terminal Configuration is where you go to access terminal settings and attributes.

Under Terminal Appearance you’ll find access to Themes to control look and feel of the session and controls like Hotspots and QuickPads.

The User Interface is where you select which Ribbon you want to use or, if you are using Classic interface, which toolbars or menus to use. You can also access the UI Designer that allows you to customize ribbons, toolbars, or menus.

Under Productivity, you can set up options like Microsoft Office tools. Input Devices is where you look when you need to select the keyboard or mouse map to use or to create custom maps. You can also access Clipboard settings to set up how Reflection handles cut and paste options. And you can access File Transfer and Printer Settings.

Let’s take a look at some ways to navigate this window. We’ll open Configure Advanced Connection Settings in the Host Connection Group,  You’ll see the settings on the right and two groups of links on the left.

The Jump To links allow you to quickly go to sections in the dialog box you are in.
The See Also links can be used to navigate to the other settings in the main group you are in – in this case, that’s the Host Connection group.

Or you can just go to the main window. You can use the back and forward buttons to navigate just like in Web browser. You can also use the breadcrumbs to go to another related setting or to go to another group of settings, like Input Devices.

And if you just can’t find a setting, you can search for it.

After you get used to this window, you’ll probably find it’s easy to navigate and helps you to quickly configure the settings for your session.
