When making changes through the GroupWise Admin Console and then encountering errors or failures, it may become necessary to examine the log files in the /var/log/novell/groupwise/gwadmin directory. If the files do not provide enough data to provide additional troubleshooting help, it may be necessary to increase the logging level of the admin services.
To increase the logging level do the following:
1. Make a backup of the /opt.novell/groupwise/admin/gwadmin-logging.xml file
2. Open the file /opt/novell/groupwise/admin/gwadmin-logging.xml in a text editor
3. Locate the section <Loggers> where you will find directives starting with 'Logger name='
4. Modify the level parameter to say level="debug"
a. This can be done for many admin functions within the .xml file including LDAP, API calls, REST calls, etc.
5. Save the file and exit
After stopping and starting the admin service, the debug logging should commence.
