Support for 64-bit Windows
Where listed in the Supported Operating Systems table, 64-bit Windows operating systems are supported. Reflection Pro 2014 and Reflection X 2014 have separate product downloads for 32-bit or 64-bit Windows. The 64-bit product contains:
- Reflection X Advantage, a native 64-bit application that uses the 64-bit Java runtime environment (JRE).
- Reflection 2014, with host emulation for UNIX and OpenVMS and/or host emulation for IBM, is a 32-bit application. However, the 64-bit .NET Framework Runtime is used on Windows 64-bit operating systems, which also supports native 64-bit applications calling the Reflection 2014 .NET API.
Note: The 64-bit product does not contain Reflection X (Legacy) 14.1 SP3. If you need Reflection X (Legacy):
- For 32-bit Reflection X (Legacy), install the 32-bit Reflection X 2014 or Reflection Pro 2014 product.
- For 64-bit Reflection X (Legacy), see the predecessor product on the download site and Technical Notes 2498 and 2686.
Installation Notes and System Requirements
This section includes additional installation notes and system requirements.
Reflection 2014
Depending on your install method (using the setup.exe Attachmate Installation Program, installing directly using MSI, or deploying from an administrative install), and the platform to which you are installing, this software is either installed or updated automatically, or you are prompted to install or perform an update.
System Requirements
Specific requirements vary based on your hardware and other software components present.
Processor
2 GHz, 32-bit or 64-bit (1.5 GHz or higher multi-core, 32-bit or 64-bit recommended)
System memory (RAM)
1 GB (2 GB recommended)
Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 Runtime
Reflection Workspace features require the Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 Runtime. If you install these features and this framework is not already installed, the Attachmate Installation Program automatically installs it after the primary installation is complete. Both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of this software are distributed with Reflection 2014.
Note: If you are using Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R1 and the .NET Framework 4.0 is required, you will need to make sure it is installed on the server. The Attachmate Installation Program does not install .NET on this server.
If you install Reflection directly with MSI or with a deployment tool, you must install the .NET Framework first. To do this, run the executable file in the subfolder Prerequisites\DotNet40.
Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1
The Microsoft Windows Installer (MSI) version 3.1 is distributed with Reflection. This is applicable to Windows XP only (Windows 8, Windows 7, and Windows Vista already include a later version).
If you use the Attachmate Installation Program (setup.exe) on Windows XP, the wizard determines whether Windows Installer 3.1 is installed, and will automatically update it if necessary.
If you install Reflection directly (with MSI), or you are deploying Reflection from an administrative install, Windows Installer 3.1 is not automatically installed on Windows XP. Although Windows Installer 3.1 is optional, you should update your version of Windows Installer to take full advantage of the features available in Windows Installer 3.1. Deploy Windows Installer 3.1 as a separate package to Windows XP workstations where it is not installed.
Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications (VBA)
Reflection 2014 ships with Microsoft VBA 6.5. If you select to install this feature in the Attachmate Installation Program (setup.exe), it is automatically installed.
If you install Reflection directly with MSI or with a deployment tool and you want to install this feature, you must install it directly. To do this, use the core and language-specific *.msi packages in the subfolder Prerequisites\VB65.
Reflection X Advantage 5.0 or 5.0 SP1
System Requirements
Processor:
1 GHz, 32-bit or 64-bit (2 GHz or higher dual-core, 32-bit or 64-bit recommended)
System memory (RAM) depends on the operating system:
For Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, IBM AIX, Linux, Solaris, and HP-UX:
2 GB (4 GB recommended)
Java Runtime Environment (JRE)
Reflection X Advantage requires Java. If you install using the Attachmate Installation Program (setup.exe), a Java Runtime Environment (JRE) is installed by default. It is also possible to configure Reflection X Advantage to use a different JRE. For details about how to configure a non-default JRE, see "Changing the JRE" in the Reflection X Advantage help.
If you install Reflection directly with MSI or with a deployment tool, you must install Java directly. To do this, use AttachmateJava.msi, in the subfolder Prerequisites\JDK.
Help Requirements
An Internet browser is required to view the application Help. JavaScript must be enabled to use navigation, search, and other Help features. Supported browsers include Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Google Chrome.
Reflection X (Legacy) 14.1 SP3
Product help may not display when running Reflection X (Legacy) on Microsoft Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, or Windows Server 2008. See KB 7021283 for information about the symptom and solution.
