Situation

How to add mobile phone numbers for GroupWise and GroupWise Mobile Server (GMS)
Need to include mobile device numbers in the Global System Address Book

Resolution

GroupWise 2014:
To configure a domain to use the Mobile Phone attribute in the System Address Book:

  1. Open the GroupWise Admin Console: see Accessing the GroupWise Admin Console.
  2. From the Administration panel, select Domains | <domain> | Address Book
    Note: This will need to be done for each domain.
  3. Move Mobile Phone from the list of Available Fields on the right to the list of Address Book Fields on the left
  4. Click Save.

To configure, modify or change a user's Mobile Phone attribute depends on how the user was created:

  1. (Option A) User created by GroupWise:
    • From the Administration Panel of the GWAdmin-Console, select Users | <userid>
    • Select General and edit the Mobile Phone field in the Contact Information section.
    • Click Save.

  2. (Option B) User created by LDAP User Import:
    Note: The LDAP directory is the primary location for user information. User information that is synced from the LDAP directory cannot be modified in the GroupWise Admin console and must therefore be modified from the directory service. Changes are then synced appropriately to the GroupWise system by the MTA. For setup instructions, see Section 6.1.2, Configuring User Synchronization for an LDAP Directory.

    Modify the mobile attribute from the directory service (eDirectory steps below):
    • eDirectory:
      • iManager | View Objects | Navigate Tree and click on the desired User
      • From the General section, select the Other tab
      • Locate the mobile attribute from Valued Attributes and click Edit
      • Update the mobile number and select OK and OK.
    • Active Directory (AD):
      • Server Manager | Tools | Active Directory Users and Computers.
      • Navigate to the Properties of the user | Telephones tab
      • Enter a Mobile number and click OK

  3. Wait for automatic LDAP synchronization or follow the steps below to trigger a manual sync for the user:
    • GroupWise Administration Console | Users | Select the user
    • Verify the LDAP Authentication Directory is correct in the Account tab
    • Select Synchronize from the buttons available above the tabs
    • Select to General tab to verify the Mobile Phone attribute now in the Contact Information.

GroupWise 8-2012:
To configure a domain to use the Mobile Phone attribute in the System Address Book:

  1. ConsoleOne | Properties of Domain | GroupWise Address Book
    Note: The following will need to be done for each domain.
  2. Select Map Additional Fields.
  3. Select an unused attribute to edit
  4. Select mobile and click OK.
  5. Move both mobile and Mobile Phone from the list of Available Fields on the right to the list of Address Book Fields on the left.
  6. Click OK.

To configure, modify or change a user's Mobile Phone attribute:

  1. ConsoleOne | Properties of the User | Select the Other tab, click Add
  2. Select mobile from the list of attributes and click OK.
  3. Enter the mobile phone number and click OK.

Additional Information

The Mobility Global Address Book (GAL) updates on the mobility server every thirty minutes. It is planned in the future to include an option in WebAdmin to force this sync; however, at the time of writing this TID, an update can be forced by restarting Mobility services.
