Environment
Novell ZENworks 11 Configuration Management Imaging
Situation
- Attempting to re-image a workstation
- ZISD (ZENworks Image-Safe Data) is cleared
- Hardware-based imaging rule is in place which matches the workstation's hardware
- When device boots into preboot environment, it exits with "no work to do"
Resolution
This is fixed in version 11.1 - see KB 7008746 "ZENworks Configuration Management 11.1 - update information and list of fixes" which can be found at https://www.novell.com/support
Workaround:
Assign the image bundle to the device object in ZCC, or if necessary, delete the device object (bear in mind that this will lose all associations to this device, and all history).

Additional Information
Prior to ZCM 11, if the ZISD is cleared, the hardware-based imaging rules apply. With ZCM 11, an additional check is made, against the MAC/Serial Number of the device, and if present, will look for imaging work for that device.
ZCM 11.1 behaviour can be changed to the Pre-ZCM 11.0 behavior by setting IgnoreDeviceReconcileFlag to True in the following file:
Linux : /opt/novell/zenworks/share/tomcat/webapps/zenworks-preboot/WEB-INF/config.xml
Windows : %ZENWORKS_HOME%\share\tomcat\webapps\zenworks-preboot\web-inf\config.xml
Prior to editing, Backup the XML file.
