Environment

Novell iPrint for Linux

Situation

When migrating iPrint from one Linux server to another, the migration fails with:

Migration failed with Errors
iprintmig command failed!

The /var/opt/novell/migration/[ProjectName]/log/iprint.log shows the following error:
  • Note: The location of the iprint.log is determined by the administrator, so the above path may be different.

    /opt/novell/ncpserv/sbin/ncpshell --ip=151.155.134.110 --u=admin --invoke --parm1=SYS:/NDPS/PSMInfo.nlm /refresh --d
    Fatal(601): Source Server Authentication Failed

  • Resolution

If a "Target context" migration was chosen (migrated printer agents eDirectory objects created to a different context), then the migration likely succeeded, despite the error, and no action is required.   To confirm whether the migration succeeded, execute the steps outlined in the "Test iPrint MIgration results" in KB 7004455.

If a "Context same as the source printer context" migration was chosen, the target Print Manager and migrated printer agents are in an awkward state.  Novell Support can help undo this problem and help you successfully migrate.  Email patchfeedback@novell.com with the subject of "LX to LX migration Bug 686063".  Attach the migration iprint.log to the email.   A Novell Support Engineer will contact you.

Novell engineering is looking into the best way to avoid this error.

    Additional Information

The error documented above is introduced in novell-iprint-migration RPM released in April 2011.  The April 2011 code improves the NetWare to Linux iPrint migration. However, this same enhancement, when executed in a Linux to Linux iPrint migration scenario, creates the above error condition.
