Novell ZENworks 10 Configuration Management with Support Pack 3 - 10.3
Situation
Server holding ZCM database has high utilization.
ZCM Primary server service-messages.log shows a large amount of getContentInfoEx requests.
Agent debug logs show agent re-caches content that is already cached. The agent zmd-messages.log will show duplicate requests for the same content each time the agent refreshes.

Resolution
For ZCM 11: This is fixed in version 11.1 - see KB 7008746 "ZENworks Configuration Management 11.1 - update information and list of fixes" which can be found at https://www.novell.com/support
For ZCM 10.3: This is fixed in version 10.3.4 - see KB 7008244 "ZENworks Configuration Management 10.3.4 - update information and list of fixes" which can be found at https://www.novell.com/support
Additional Information
Steps to reproduce
- Create a bundle with content (install files or directory works well)
- Create a second bundle with the same content (give server time to import content and replicate to any other necessary servers)
- Assign the second bundle to a workstation
- On the agent, set log level to debug and do a refresh
- Verify in the agent logs that it queried for the item info for the second bundle (you should see a line like "Content service returned info for item Item info for {guid}" the guid should match that of the second bundle
-
Do another refresh and verify it again requests the item info.
The agent will request the item info each refresh, which causes a lot of unnecessary lan traffic, server and db load.
