ZENworks Imaging auto rename using asset tag randomly fails

Environment

Novell ZENworks 10 Configuration Management with Support Pack 2 - 10.2

Situation

After using ZENworks imaging to restore an image, devices set to Auto Rename using Asset Tag may maintain the original name of the server from which the image was taken instead of being renamed to Asset Tag value from local device BIOS.

Resolution

This is fixed in version 10.3.1 - see KB 7006265 "ZENworks Configuration Management 10.3.1 - update information and list of fixes" which can be found at https://www.novell.com/support

Additional Information

Using the Auto Rename based on Asset Tag will fail if the Asset Tag includes more than 15 characters.  This is the standard NETBIOS Windows maximum value.

Additionally, some BIOS versions will pad the Asset Tag characters with space characters to full size.  When that full size is greater than 15 characters, the ziswin does not trim the trailing space characters.

ziswin should truncate the value rather than fail.
