Environment
Novell ZENworks 10 Configuration Management with Support Pack 2 - 10.2
Situation
System update has run successfully on a device and updates-completed file in %ZENWORKS%HOME%\work directory contains the system update GUID of the current update. But the device still shows as pending in the ZCC. How often is the status re-reported if the first attempt did not upload/update ZCC properly? How can this be changed?
Resolution
This is fixed in version 10.3 - see KB 7005455 "ZENworks Configuration Management SP3 (10.3) - update information and list of fixes" which can be found at https://www.novell.com/support
In 10.3 and later, the resend timer will not reset when service is stopped.
In 10.2.1 and 10.2.2 updates, agents re-report their System Update completed status every 4 days. This timeout will only happen if the device is left on for that amount of time, however. So if workstations or the ZENworks agent service are stopping and starting, then the timeout starts over.
This report happens regardless of the state of the update in the zone (whether it has been deleted or not).
Workarounds:
- The GUID can be moved from updates-completed to updates-inprocess file in %ZENWORKS_HOME%\work\system-update and the device refreshed to re-report System Update status.
- There is a registry key that can change the reporting from every four days as described above, to every refresh. This can be temporarily added to trigger the status resend but should be removed after the status is received by the server (device removed from pending list) to reduce the additional unnecessary traffic.
Create a DWORD "system.update.report.interval " Value 0 in the device registry under "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Novell\ZCM" and restart the ZENworks agent service or reboot.
Note: In 10.3 and later interval will not reset after restart.
Additional Information
Note: The discussion above assumes that the device is assigned. See TID https://www.novell.com/support/search.do?usemicrosite=true&searchString=7001305 for more information on getting/setting assignment when devices without assignment show pending in ZCC System Update Status.
