Desktop icons left align on Windows desktops

Environment

Novell ZENworks 10 Configuration Management with Support Pack 2 - 10.2
Novell ZENworks Configuration Management 10.3
Novell ZENworks Configuration Management 11.1
Novell ZENworks Configuration Management 11.2

Situation

After user login, when desktop is generated, all the desktop icons are shifted to the left side of the screen rather than sticking to the location they were originally placed. This symptom can sometimes occur randomly.

ZCM agent and Novell Client are installed on Windows 2000 desktops.

The following policies are enforced on the desktop:
- Dynamic Local User: set to manage existing account.
- Roaming Profiles
- Active Desktop is enabled via Active Directory policy: GPEDIT > Local Computer Policy > User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Desktop > Active Desktop.

Resolution

To prevent the left-aligned icons, Disable Active Desktop.  Per Microsoft, ZCM code cannot prevent this from happening.

Additional Information

ZENworks does save the icon position on logout and attempts to re-position the icon in the same place after login, but the position cannot be guaranteed nor can ZCM prevent the left-aligned icons, and Microsoft does not provide an alternative way to achieve this.
