Environment

Novell eDirectory
Novell NetWare 6.5
Novell ZENworks 6.5 Server Management Support Pack 2 - ZSM6.5 SP2
Novell ZENworks 7 Server Management Support Pack 1 - ZSM7 SP1

Situation

EDIR.MIB alarms (alarms for EDIRECTORY DSSNMPSA.NLM ) are not passing usable parameters, causing empty, or blank alarms, or alarms with data that make no sense in the Summary field.

Resolution

To obtain a hot patch with the fix for this problem, follow the instructions in KB 3809227 "Updates to Novell ZENworks 7 Server Management" which can be found at https://www.novell.com/support

Workaround (will take some time finding the common functions):  edit the EDIR.MIB (SYS:ETC\ ) to use the same arguments that are used for the same function in NDSTRAP.MIB (SYS:SYSTEM\NMA\MIBS ).  Recompile the EDIR.MIB after editing it.

Additional Information

For editing an EDIR.MIB for preparing to compile it on a third party SNMP consoles:

MMS = ZENworks for Servers Management and Monitoring Services product.

1.  Don't use the SYS:ETC\EDIR.MIB at all.

2.  The MMS EDIR.MIB (\ZENWORKS\...\MIBPOOL\ ) looks more like the NDSTRAP.MIB and is what can be 'edited' to match up with the MMS NDSTRAP.MIB .  You may want to start with this EDIR.MIB 'as is' on the SNMP console to see how it handles the incoming EDIRECTORY alarms.

3.  The SYS:SYSTEM\NMA\MIBS\NDSTRAP.MIB  is not exactly like the MMS NDSTRAP.MIB ( \ZENWORKS\...\MIBPOOL\ ) so to edit the EDIR.MIB to match up with the arguments of the NDSTRAP.MIB , use the MMS NDSTRAP.MIB as the source.

4.  The MMS NDSTRAP.MIB ( \ZENWORKS\...\MIBPOOL\ ) is probably the best mib to use as a source for editing the EDIR.MIB  for the arguments in the common functions, but if the SYS:SYSTEM\NMA\MIBS\NDSTRAP.MIB  is what is available, use it.
