Environment

Novell iPrint for Linux
Novell iPrint for NetWare
Novell iPrint Client for Windows

Situation

Note: This TID assumes Vista drivers are being uploaded to NetWare 6.5 SP7 or Linux Open Enterprise Server 2. For iPrint on Vista to function, iPrint requires those versions of the server operating system. If you are running either of those server versions and the Vista tab does not show in iManager when managing the Broker or Driver Store, see KB 3929179.

iPrint requires Internet Explorer on Vista to upload print drivers to the Broker/Driver Store Vista print driver repository. Vista's Internet Explorer implements blocking features to increase the browser's security. These features cause administrators to go through the following sequence of events the first time they upload a Vista print driver to the Broker or Driver Store:

Go to iManager's Vista tab within the Broker or Driver Store. If you click "Add from File" or "Add From System", a pop-up window will be presented:

The Novell iPrint client must be installed in order to add resources to the Driver Store through Novell iManager. Version 4.15 or newer is required. Go towww.novell.com/iPrintto download.

If the iPrint client is not installed, see KB 3288691.

If the iPrint client is already installed, then click OK. You will be redirected to an OES website. Go back to iManager's Vista tab within the Broker or Driver Store. You will see a yellow band along the top of the page:

Pop-up blocked. Also, to help protect your security, Internet Explorer blocked other content from this site. Click here for options...

Click the yellow band at the top of the page, choose "Pop-up Blocked -> Always Allow Pop-ups from This Site..."

iManager will exit. Go back to iManager's Vista tab within the Broker or Driver Store. You will see a different yellow band along the top of the page:

This website wants to run the following add-on: 'iPrint-ActiveX Control' from'Novell, Inc.'. If you trust the website and the add-on and want to allow it to run, click here...

Click the yellow band and choose "Run ActiveX Control". You will be presented with another window. Click the Run button.

iManager will exit. Go back to iManager's Vista tab within the Broker or Driver Store. You will be able to view the page with no yellow bands at the top of the page. But, if you click the "Add From File" or "Add From System" buttons, you will see:

"ERROR: iPrint Client - You need to restart the browser and "Run as Administrator" to perfrom this task". If you click OK, then you will see "An error has occurred while trying to add the resource. Error Code:"

Close the browser. Right-click the Internet Explorer shortcut icon. Choose "Run as Administrator". Go back to iManager's Vista tab within the Broker or Driver Store. You should be able to upload drivers to the Vista repository.

Resolution

1. Ensure the iPrint client is installed. If it is not, see KB 3288691.
2. Allow pop-ups on the Broker/Driver Store page within iManager.
3. Allow the iPrint-ActiveX Control to run within the Broker/Driver Store page.
4. Run Internet Explorer as Administrator.
Right-click the Internet Explorer shortcut icon. Choose "Run as Administrator".

If any of the Resolution steps are unclear, review the"Situation" section of this TID.

Additional Information

Uploading print drivers using Firefox or any non-IE browser is not supported.
