Environment
Novell ZENworks 10 Configuration Management
Situation
Desktop takes a long time to come up when it cannot connect to the Primary server.
It takes a long time for a user to login to workstation when logging in locally.
The problem does not occur if the workstation has no network access at all.
Resolution
This is fixed in version 10.0.1 - see KB 3486285 "Updates to ZENworks 10 Configuration Management" which can be found at Novell Support
Workaround:
The following registry key and value can be set so that the authentication method for ZEN is bypassed.
For ZCM 10.3 or later
Key: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Novell\ZCM\ZenLgn
Value Name: DisablePassiveModeLogin
Value: 1
Value Type: REG_DWORD
Value Name: DisablePassiveModeLogin
Value: 1
Value Type: REG_DWORD
For ZCM 10.0.x to 10.2.2
Key: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Novell\ZENworks\ZenLgn
Value Name: DisablePassiveModeLogin
Value: 1
Value Type: REG_DWORD
Value Name: DisablePassiveModeLogin
Value: 1
Value Type: REG_DWORD
**NOTE: If this is set the user will have to manually login using the Zicon every time the login process happens on the workstation, or the above mentioned registry key must be modified to re-enable the authentication method.
