This document is an overview of the changes made to iSPI Performance for Traffic software. It contains important information that is not included in books or Help.

What's New in This Release?

This is the first release for iSPI Performance for Traffic. You can use the iSPI Performance for Traffic in conjunction with the iSPI Performance for Metrics to view reports that help you understand performance bottlenecks in you network more effectively. In addition, you can monitor network flow data and store the data for future analysis.

New Features

The iSPI Performance for Traffic generates performance reports based on the data collected from the IP flow records between routers. The iSPI Performance for Traffic generates performance reports from the IP flow records as follows:

  • Aggregation of the IP flow record.
  • Correlation of obtained IP flow records with NNMi topology for context-based analysis.
  • Enrichment of the IP flow records by providing the ability to add or update the available fields in the flow records for example, DNS name resolution and application mapping.
  •   Provides an integrated view of network traffic by enriching the data obtained from the IP flow records.   

Installation Notes

Installation requirements, as well as instructions for installing iSPI Performance for Traffic, are documented in the HP Network Node Manager iSPI Performance for Traffic Installation Guide provided in PDF (.pdf) format.

The iSPI Performance for Traffic 8.13 is supported only on Microsoft Windows operating systems.

Prerequisites:

NNMi 8.13

Ensure that NNMi 8.13 installed on a system in your deployment environment. To install and configure NNMi 8.13 on a system, see the HP Network Node Manager i-Series Software 8.13 Installation Guide for Windows.

To download this patch, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the following web site:
    http://h20230.www2.hp.com/selfsolve/patches

  2. Log on with your HP Passport credentials.

  3. Select Network Node Manager from the Product list.

  4. Select 8.13 from the Product version list.

  5. Click Search.

iSPI Performance for Metrics(iSPI Performance and iSPI Performance for Metrics)


To complete an installation of the iSPI Performance for Traffic, you must first install of the server components of the iSPI Performance for Metrics. For more information, see the HP Network Node Manager iSPI Performance for Metrics Software 8.13 Installation Guide.

iSPI Performance for Traffic HP Software Product Integration

The iSPI Performance for Traffic integrates with the iSPI Performance for Metrics and shares system resources to create performance reports of the traffic flow in a network.

Documentation Errata:

The Legal Notices in the iSPI Performance for Traffic Configuration UI application throws a error exception. You can refer to the HP NNM iSPI Performance for Traffic Release Notes for Legal Notices information.

Known Problems, Limitations, and Workarounds

This release contains certain unresolved problems, and there are workaround to help solve certain problems.

Known Problems

  • Problem:Single sign-on does not work properly with iSPI Performance for Traffic Configuration UI when NNMi is not installed on the same system.
  • Problem: The iSPI Performance for Traffic installer check screen appears blank, however this does not affect the installation progress.
  • Problem: After installation of the iSPI Performance for Traffic Master Collector, the Master Collector uses the default ports, even if you assign different port numbers.
  • Problem: On a very high performance and scalability deployment, you can run a maximum of five iSPI Performance for Traffic Leaf Collectors with single Leaf Collector instance.
  • Problem: While adding the iSPI Performance for Traffic Leaf Collector, the fully qualified domain name(FQDN) provided by you is accepted without any validation by the iSPI Performance for Traffic Configuration UI application.
  • Problem: While adding the iSPI Performance for Traffic Leaf Collector, the port number (HTTP or JNDI) provided by you is accepted without any validation by the iSPI Performance for Traffic Configuration UI application.
  • Problem: While performing a delete operation in iSPI Performance for Traffic Configuration UI application, the confirmation dialog box does not appear.
  • Problem: If you click the clear all button in the iSPI Performance for Traffic Configuration UI application, the text entries in disabled text box gets cleared.
  • Problem: The Condition drop-down list in the iSPI Performance for Traffic Configuration UI application contains duplicate items.
  • Problem: While adding a iSPI Performance for Traffic Leaf Collector, the fully qualified domain name(FQDN) provided by you is accepted without validation by the iSPI Performance for Traffic Configuration UI.
  • Problem: While adding a iSPI Performance for Traffic Leaf Collector, the port number(HTTP or JNDI) value provided by you is accepted without validation by the iSPI Performance for Traffic Configuration UI.
  • Problem: The Confirmation dialog box does not appear while performing a delete operation in the iSPI Performance for Traffic Configuration UI.

Workarounds

§            Problem: Unable to create an expression with existing condition in the iSPI Performance for Traffic Configuration UI application, using Mozilla Firefox web browser.

    • Workaround: You can use Microsoft Internet Explorer(version 7).
    • Workaround: You can use the Quick start Configuration UI in the iSPI Performance for Traffic Configuration UI application, to create an expression.
  • Problem:Unable to remove the configured expression from the expression list in iSPI Performance for Traffic Configuration UI application when it is launched from Mozilla Firefox web browser

Workaround: You can remove and add the expression again.

  • Problem: If you type the wrong password in the iSPI Performance for Traffic Configuration UI Login page, the login page throws a 404 error exception.

Workaround: Opening a iSPI Performance for Traffic Configuration Login page in a new browser session solves the problem.

  • Problem: If there is a network failure, the iSPI Performance for Traffic Leaf Collector does not receive flow records, and fails to communicate to the iSPI Performance for Traffic Master Collector.

Workaround: You must manually stop and restart the iSPI Performance for Traffic Leaf Collector.
