Known Problems, Limitations, and Workarounds

Known Problems

The PI 5.40 release contains the following problems. The Workaround for each problem is mentioned below:

Problem - QXCR1000893631

The mw_collect process becomes slower in scenarios where a large number of nodes have to be polled.
Workaround To improve the performance of mw_collect, where large number of nodes are to be polled, create and set the value of the environment variable DPIPE_MW_IMLOG to "NO". Make sure that "NO" is specified in capital letters.

Setting DPIPE_MW_IMLOG as "NO" stops the internal monitoring process for collection. This means that the PI Performance Graphs will not be available from the Management Console. To enable internal monitoring for collection, in future, either change the DPIPE_MW_IMLOG to "YES" or delete the DPIPE_MW_IMLOG environment variable.

To set the environment variable in UNIX system, open the {DPIPE_HOME}/data/env/env.properties file and add DPIPE_MW_IMLOG=NO at the end of the file.

To set the environment variable  in Windows:

  1. Right-click My Computer and select Properties. Select the Advanced tab and click Environment Variables.
  2. Under System Variables, click New to add the variable name and value.

After setting the environment variable, restart the timer.

Problem - QXCR1000842648

Incorrect LIR configuration information is displayed in PI Management Console despite upgrading PI to version 5.40.

Workaround

N/A. This is only a display problem, it does not affect any LIR functionality.

Problem - QXCR1000896320

For the PI upgrade from 5.10.010 to 5.40 and for a new installation on 5.40, the Help menu in the PI Management Console, Builder, Viewer, and Web Access Server does not display the Installation and Upgrade Guides. For the PI upgrade from 5.30 to 5.40, the Help menu displays the old Installation and Upgrade Guides.

Workaround

Access the correct Installation and Upgrade Guides from the folder {ovpi_home}/docs

Limitations

This release contains the following limitations:

Limitation In case of PI upgrade from 5.10.010 to 5.40 on a Sybase database, the database will not roll back because the operating systems for Sybase 15.0.2 (supported for PI 5.40) and Sybase 11.9 (supported for PI 5.10.010) are different. This implies the resume and rollback options are not supported for upgrade from PI 5.10.010 to 5.40.
Workaround You have to save the Sybase and reinstall it manually from the dump. See the Installation and Upgrade Guide for Sybase on the Windows Operating System for the instructions.
Limitation The common components, for example, HPOvBbc and HPOvJxpl will not be rolled back to a previous version as part of rollback. However, these common components will continue to work with the previous version of PI.
Limitation The backup files do not get deleted after successful upgrade or rollback.
Workaround Delete the backup folder manually.

Note: MPLS & IPT solution provides out-of-the-box SPI and RP integration on top of NNM and PI integration.

Note: SD 5.00 itself is not supported on Linux, therefore, HP SD 5.00 Report Pack is not supported on Linux. We use a datapipe utility provided by SD.

Coexistence with Other HP Software Products

PI can co-exist with these HP Software products:

HP Software Products Supported Version(s)
HP Network Node Manager (HP NNM) 7.53, 8.10
HP Service Desk (HP SD) 5.10
HP Performance Agent (PA) 4.60, 4.70
HP Operations agent 7.x, 8.52

Note: It is recommended to run PI on a stand alone server. However, PI is supported with the above products on a co-existence scenario provided you have planned and allocated enough resources.

Known Problems with Coexistence

1. PI 5.40 and NNM 8.10 coexistence

Problem - QXCR1000880984 The PI Management Information Base (MIB) browser functionality does not work when PI coexists with NNM 8.10 on the same machine.
Workaround You can use the NNM MIB browser.

2. PI 5.40 and SD 5.10 coexistence

Problem - QXCR1000859633 The Web Console of SD 5.1 or PI 5.40 does not appear if the app server of the other product is running.
Workaround

Change the default HTTP port on PI 5.40. The steps to change the port are:

  1. Stop the http service by running ./sbin/init.d/ovpi_httpd stop
  2. Change the  following ports accordingly on the PI 5.40 product by editing the below file:
    /opt/OV/nonOV/PiJBoss/405/server/piweb/conf/jboss-service.xml

    WebService = 8084
    NamingService = 1096
    RMI = 1097
    RMIObjectPort=4435
    ServerBindPort=4436
    ClientConnectPort 1
  3. Edit the below file with the following commands:
    /opt/OV/nonOV/PiJBoss/405/server/piweb/deploy/jbossweb-tomcat55.sar/server.xml

    <Connector port="8008" address="${jboss.bind.address}"
             emptySessionPath="true" enableLookups="false" redirectPort="8446"
             protocol="AJP/1.3"/>
  1. Restart the following processes:

/opt/OV/bin/ovc -restart
/sbin/init.d/ovpi_httpd start

  1. For HTTPS port, enable the SSL port of PI, type the password in the GUI and restart:
    /sbin/init.d/ovpi_httpd restart
