How to export and import an Oracle database to dump files

Question

The easiest way to transfer data from an Oracle server to another is to use import and export utilities; these utilities are command line executable files in the OracleBin folder (imp.exe and exp.exe).

Note:

  • This should only be done by your Oracle DBA. As with anything concerning your databases, this should be tried on a test database first. Please consult your Oracle DBA.
  • When TestDirector / Quality Center creates an Oracle project, it first creates an Oracle user (normally "DomainName_ProjectName_db") and logs in as that user to create the Oracle database. That user is the owner of all the objects (tables and indexes) for the project.
