Service Desk 4.5 Supported Platforms List

Question

What platforms are supported by Service Desk 4.5?
What is needed to integrate Service Desk and OpenView Operations?

Answer

This list specifies the software versions certified by Hewlett-Packard for Service Desk 4.5. (Last modified: May 2011)

By default, all listed products are supported including any subsequent service packs or patches for that specific product.

This does not include any minor releases for these products - minor releases have to be certified against Service Desk 4.5. In general, combinations not listed in this document are unsupported until they have been tested. Hewlett-Packard will continue to accept requests for support for other combinations; however, if unable to reproduce the problem in an unsupported configuration, customers may be required to migrate to a supported configuration to correct the symptoms of the problem.

Hewlett-Packard will continue to test combinations of software versions. Upon completion of testing, HP will add these combinations to the supported list. The latest information about supported software versions will be published on the Internet, in the Supported Platforms List (this document).

Hewlett-Packard can neither guarantee the reliability nor solve issues inherent in third-party software. For support for third-party software, please contact the manufacturer.

General: Review the release notes (readme.htm) for configuration details like drivers and important information supplied with each service pack.

The following lists the supported versions of Java (JRE and JDK) for the Service Desk 4.5 application SERVER.
Supported means that higher version should work (Java backward compatibility), but the SD labs have not tested
other versions than the ones stated below. The build numbers, after '_' indicate recommended minimum versions.

JRE 1.3.1 for SD 4.5 up to sp18:
JRE/JDK 1.3.1_03 was initially shipped on the SD 4.5 CD for convenience, but since then Sun has fixed a lot of
performance and stability issues in later builds of Java. Build 1.3.1_15 is the first really stable JRE version.

SD 4.5 sp18-25, ITSM007871
JRE 1.4.2 (Build 1.4.2_07 is stable; There's a hotfix package available for customers on sp17 with Tomcat 5)

SD 4.5 sp25-30, ITSM009360
JRE 5 / 1.5.0_14

SD 4.5 sp30+, sp37 is latest version at time of writing, ITSM009779
JRE 6 / 1.6.0_13

Old JRE/JDK versions can be downloaded from http://java.sun.com/products/archive/index.html.

NOTE 1
The standard Service Desk 4.5 CLIENT uses Microsoft Java aka Jview. It does not run with Sun Java, and the code is
not 100% compatible. The Jview version is updated with Windows.

NOTE 2
The new Client 2008 for SD 4.5 which was released for sp23 and higher comes with an embedded JRE version, 1.5 for
sp23-31, 1.6/6.0 for sp31+. See the download's extraction folder doc/ITSM009803 for instructions.

ITSM to Service Desk Migration
Only supported from ITSM 5.6.3,  5.7.2 or 5.7.3

Upgrades from previous versions of Service Desk
Only supported from Service Desk versions 3.0 (latest service pack) and 4.0 (latest service pack)

Discontinued
The Service Desk API provided with previous versions of Service Desk is no longer supported. It has been superseded by the Service Desk web-based API.
Microsoft has ended support for Windows NT 4.0 on June 30, 2003.
Customers running clients and/or application servers on NT4.0 platforms should take note and plan to upgrade to a supported O/S.
Microsoft has ended support for Windows 2000 since Jun 30, 2005. SD 4.5 service packs released after Apr 1, 2009 are not verified on Windows 2000.
