Question

Data Protector IDB server process ends abnormally in versions earlier than Data Protector 2020.05.

Summary

PostgreSQL server process ends abnormally on the Cell Manager thereby deactivating the IDB service.

Problem

PostgreSQL log reports server process (PID ****) was terminated by exception 0xFFFFFFFF.  This issue occurs intermittently.

Environment

Data Protector Cell Manager on Windows 2012 R2.

Impacted versions

All supported Data Protector versions earlier than Data Protector 2020.05.

Cause

This issue occurs if Microsoft Windows security updates KB4598275 and KB4533860 are applied on the Cell Manager.

Solution

To resolve this issue, do one of the following:

  • Remove Microsoft Windows Security updates KB4598275 and KB4533860 from the Cell Manager.
  • Upgrade to DP 2020.05 or a later version which has PostgreSQL 11.5 as IDB. It is not known to be affected by the above-mentioned issue.
