Cause

Data Protection (DPM) Software owned by Microsoft was also installed on the Hyper-V, which in turn defaults the software provider to be VSS Null Provider

Fix

Reconfigure VMExplorer to point to Microsoft Software Shadow Copy provider for NON clustered shared volumes (CSV)
