Summary

steps to integrate Cloud Optimizer & OMi

Reference

You can integrate HPE Cloud Optimizer with OMi to view the HPE Cloud Optimizer alerts, topology, and performance graphs on OMi. HPE Cloud Optimizer integration with OMi helps you to seamlessly monitor your virtual infrastructure from OMi.

Note: Integrating HPE Cloud Optimizer with OMi allows you to monitor the virtual infrastructure provided by VMware vCenter, Microsoft Hyper-V, and KVM.

This integration can be achieved by installing the OMi Management Pack for vPV on HPE Business Service Management (HPE BSM) version 9.25 and HPE Operations Manager i (OMi) 10.01. To supportintegration with HPE BSM 9.25, you must install the HPE BSM 9.25 hotfix. Contact support for more information.

Note:The OMi Management Pack for vPV should be installed on both the Gateway and the Data Processing server of OMi.

Prerequisites

All the monitored VM nodes should have the host name set and the VMware tools running on them.

The OMi Management Pack for vPV works with OMi and provides the following features:

·        Ready to deploy Management Template to suit different monitoring requirements

·        Ability to view HPE Cloud Optimizer alerts and topology on OMi

·        Ability to view performance graphs

The OMi Management Pack for vPV includes the following artifacts:

Artifact

Name

Description

Management Template

vPV Monitor (300.0)

Monitoring the performance of virtual nodes. It consists of two Aspects: vPV Alerts and vPV Discovery.

Aspects

vPV Alerts (300.0)

Monitors events or alarms from the vCenter server. It has four policies: vPV Alert Sensitivity, vPV Custom Alert Sensitivity Definition, vPV-EventMonitor, and vPV-OMIntegration.

vPV Discovery (220.0)

Discovers the virtualization infrastructure.

Policies

vPV Alert Sensitivity

Used to handle alerts with high, medium, low, and custom sensitivity levels. The policy has a parameter named SensitivityLevelSensitivityLevel can have values such as High, Medium, Low, and Custom.

vPV Custom Alert Sensitivity Definition

If you want to use custom sensitivity, set the SensitivityLevel parameter as Custom and edit the vPV Custom Alert Sensitivity Definition policy.

vPV-EventMonitor

Used to monitor events and alarms from the HPE Cloud Optimizer server.

vPV-OMIntegration

Used to forward HPE Cloud Optimizer alerts to the HPE OM and OMi. You can use this policy to customize the severity of alerts. For more information on configuring the severity of alerts, see Customize the severity of Alerts.

vPV-Discovery

Used to discover the virtualization infrastructure.

vPV-SuppressAlerts

Used to suppress alerts.

Follow these steps for integration:

On HPE Cloud Optimizer machine:

1.     Log on as an administrator.

2.     From the HPE Cloud Optimizer home page, select Settings > Integration.

3.     In the HPE Operations Manager/HPE Operations Manager i (HPOM/HPE OMi) section, click Download Zip Package (OMi).

4.     Copy the vPV_OMi_Integration.zip file and transfer it to the HPE OMi machine.

5.     Install HPE Operations agent 11.14 on the HPE Cloud Optimizer machine. For more information, see the HPE Operations agent Installation guide.

6.     Run the following command on the HPE Cloud Optimizer machine to ensure the certificate is set between HPE OMi and HPE Cloud Optimizer machine.

a.     Run the command: /opt/OV/bin/OpC/install/opcactivate -srv <hostname> -cert_srv <hostname>

In this instance, <hostname> is the hostname of the management server.

b.     Go to the HPE OMi machine and grant the certificate.

Note: The HPE OMi machine here refers to HPE OMi available with the HPE Business Service Management (HPE BSM) with Monitoring Automation version 9.25 (with BSM 9.25 hotfix applied) or OMi 10.01.

On the HPE OMi Machine:

Note: The following steps must be performed on both the Gateway and the Data Processing server of OMi.

Follow the steps:

Note: Make sure you have installed the HPE OMi Management Pack for Infrastructure version 1.11 on the HPE OMi machine. You can download it from HPE Live Network.

1.     Extract the contents of the vPV OMi Integration Pack. Copy the Integration package to the respective folder:

On Windows: c:\temp

On UNIX: /tmp

2.     Run the following commands to install the vPV OMi Integration Pack:

o   On Windows: cscript vPV_integration_install.vbs -i

o   On UNIX: ./vPV_integration_install.sh -i

3.     After the installation is complete, check the log file (install.log). This is available in <BSMInstallDir>/log/vpv_int_install.log.

4.     Add the HPE Cloud Optimizer machine to the Nodes with Operations Agent group on the HPE OMi machine. To access,

On BSM, click Admin > Operations Management > Setup Monitored Nodes > Nodes with Operations Agent.

On OMi, click Administration > Setup and Maintenance > Monitored Nodes > Nodes with Operations Agent.

5.     Before you begin monitoring, deploy the Management Template or Aspects provided by the OMi Management Pack for vPV.

Note: If you are using Monitoring Automation for Composite Applications license, you can deploy either the OMi Management Pack for vPV Management Templates or OMi Management Pack for vPV Aspects to the CIs. For more information about deploying the HPE Cloud Optimizer OMi Integration Management Template, see Identifying and Deploying HPE Cloud Optimizer OMi IntegrationManagement Templates.

If you are using Monitoring Automation for Server license, you can deploy the OMi Management Pack for vPV Aspects. For more information about deploying the OMi Management Pack for vPVAspects, see Deploying the HPE Cloud Optimizer OMi Integration Aspects.
