Program overview

Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) is announcing the migration program of HPE Fortify Runtime to HPE Security Application Defender. We are not obsoleting HPE Fortify Runtime  at this time, but we are only providing an optional migration program to HPE Security Application Defender. All HPE Fortify Runtime customers with an active support contract are eligible to migrate to HPE Security Application Defender.

Note that for this migration program it is required to purchase the HPE Security Application Defender server SKU.

HPE Security Application Defender has the following value propositions

  • HPE Security Application Defender improves scalability to standalone runtime agent with SSC.
SSC supports 10-20 agents which decreases event flow and creates a smaller back end to process and store events.

  • HPE Security Application Defender was created to solve the manageability problem for Agents. When agent code or rules are updated on the “Manage” page, customers can view the updates and download the latest version of the agent binary and/or rules. Rule update may address zero day vulnerabilities. Java agents immediately have the benefit of the update but .NET agents need to be restarted (a limitation of IIS loading).

  • HPE Security Application Defender's protection setting is simple and intuitive. As events are displayed on the Service Dashboard, customers can select the Protect button which permits Pointwise Protection or immediate action from the agent. There is also support for Category Wise protection. This base allows support for cloud scenarios where customers dynamically ramp up and down app servers and agents. This is opposed to a standalone case where configuration is manually altered at each app server running the agent.

  • HPE Security Application Defender has the ability to send alerts and reports.
