Description
HP Universal CMDB (UCMDB) provides the ability to manage device dependency and service relationships mappings between individually managed CIs. For example, a Host CI can consist of many hardware or software CIs. Collectively, this can be defined as a composite CI. More importantly, an Application or Service CI can represent the relationship of upstream/downstream composite CIs, as well as other hardware and running software CIs that are required to support that application or service.
ITIL defines these complex configurations as Service Assets. Since UCMDB manages these CI classes, Asset Manager (AM) consumes the relationship mapping information to support its complementary Asset class: Business Service.
Using replication mode integration, a Connect-It mapping scenario creates and maintains Business Service Assets (UCMDB -> AM). However, only the CI relationships (i.e., the key structures) supporting the UCMDB Application or Service CIs are replicated to the related AM Business Service; not the individual CIs. These CI relationships are matched with existing IT Assets previously replicated from the AM repository to the UCMDB (AM -> UCMDB) as part of the CMS best practices for CI lifecycle management.
- All hosts linked to a Business Service CI
- All hosts linked to an Application CI
- All hosts attached to a group attached to an Application CI. (All hosts, provided they already exist in Asset Manager.) The application is linked to the computers that form the group, but not to the group.
For all these relationships, the amClientResource:CRType field is set to Within <Name of the AM Business Service>, uses.
For a successful replication, the structure of the Business Services must conform to that required in the supplied Business Services TQL and reflected in BusinessServices.xml. This configuration is that taken into account by the HP Connect-It scenario. CIs not present in Asset Manager are not created; only business service assets and relationships with existing CIs.
