What's New in this Version

Supported Environments

Added support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server versions 5.5, 6.0, and 6.2. The following modes of installation of SHR are supported on Linux:

The HP Service Health Reporter Installation and Configuration Guide describes the steps to install and configure the product on Linux.

Collection Enhancements

In SHR 9.20, the collector component always coexisted with the rest of the SHR components. In SHR 9.30, you can deploy the SHR collector component on separate systems to collect data from the HP Operations agent / Performance Agent, Run-time Service Model (RTSM), HP Operations Manager (HPOM) database, profile database, and any other databases.

Collector components thus deployed provide support to the process of data collection from various data sources across the network. The data sources may be located within or outside of a firewall. The data collected by each collector component is sent back to SHR at a regular interval. The remote collection also improves the scalability of SHR collection by distributing the collection load.

Deploying collectors remotely is optional; if no collector is installed remotely, the SHR server (with the local collector) collects data independently from the data sources.

The HP Service Health Reporter Installation and Configuration Guide describes the steps to install and configure the SHR Collector. The HP Service Health Reporter  Concepts Guide provides further references to the collector.

Security Enhancements

You can run SHR administration console and SAP BusinessObjects InfoView in secured environment (HTTPS) or in non-secured environment (HTTP). By default, these run in a non-secured environment (HTTP). You can configure HTTPS communication for Administration console and SAP Business Objects InfoView console in SHR 9.30.

SHR 9.30 supports PKI user authentication (for example, logging on using smart cards). Smart cards store certificates verifying users’ identity and allow access to secure environments. Authentication is the process of validating the identity of the user and authorization is the process of verifying the permissions of the user to perform the requested action. SHR uses SAP Business Objects for authentication and authorization. By default, the password-based authentication mechanism is used. SHR can be configured to use client certificate-based authentication, wherein SHR verifies the identity of the user by validating the smart card based certificate and authorizes the user using SAP Business Objects.

For instructions on configuring secure connection and certificate-based authentication, see the HP Service Health Reporter Installation and Configuration Guide.

Configuring SHR in a High Availability Environment

SHR can be configured in a high availability environment using the Veritas Cluster Server (VCS) 5.1 or 6.0. The configuration involves a two-node cluster using a shared disk with SHR 9.30 installed on both nodes.

For instructions on how to configure SHR in a high availability environment, see the HP Service Health Reporter Installation and Configuration Guide for High-Availability Cluster Environments.

SiteScope Content on Systems and Virtualization (VMware) from the BSM Profile Database

Until SHR 9.20, System metrics were collected from the SiteScope server using the CODA interface. SHR 9.30 additionally collects the Systems and Virtualization (VMware) metrics from the data logged in the Profile database by SiteScope. This offers improved scalability and is aligned with collection mechanism used for other BSM applications (BPM, RUM) in SHR.

The SysPerf_ETL_SiS_DB and VirtualEnvPerf_ETL_VMware_SiteScope ETL content packages are available on the media and can be deployed using Deployment Manager.

Platform Refresh - SAP Business Objects XI 3.1 Service Pack 5

SHR 9.30 uses SAP Business Objects XI 3.1 Service Pack 5 for reporting.

Upgrade

SHR supports upgrade from version 9.20 to version 9.30.

Instructions pertaining to upgrade are described alongside the installation steps in the HP Service Health Reporter Installation and Configuration Guide.

SHR 9.30 does not integrate or coexist with any versions of HP Service Health Optimizer (SHO). When SHO 9.20 and SHR 9.20 are installed on the same system, you must reinstall SHR on a different system before upgrading it to the version 9.30.
Follow these steps before upgrading to SHR 9.30:

  1. Take a backup of the SHR data on the system where SHR and SHO coexist. See the Database Backup and Recovery chapter in the HP Service Health Reporter 9.20 Installation and Configuration Guide for more information.
  2. Install SHR 9.20 on a different system. See the HP Service Health Reporter 9.20 Installation and Configuration Guide for more information.
  3. Recover the backed-up SHR data on the system where you installed SHR (in step 2). See the Database Backup and Recovery chapter in the HP Service Health Reporter 9.20 Installation and Configuration Guide for more information.
  4. Upgrade the newly installed SHR instance to the version 9.30. See the Upgrading SHR chapter in the HP Service Health Reporter 9.30 Installation and Configuration Guide for more information.
  5. Remove the old instance of SHR 9.20 from the server where SHO 9.20 is installed.

Enhancements

Licenses

SHR provides the following licenses:

  1. HP Service Health Reporter Software: This license includes the data collection framework, the SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise, a Performance Management Database for storing and processing the collected metrics, and the out-of-the-box content packs. Also included is an entitlement to collect and report on the metrics for up to 50 nodes.
  2. Additional scalability packs of 50 nodes: Additional data collection and reporting entitlements can be added to grow the solution to fit your environment.

Installation Notes

Installation requirements and instructions for installing SHR are available in the Installation and Configuration Guide.

For the list of supported hardware platforms, operating systems, and other products, see the Support Matrix.

Known Problems, Limitations, and Workarounds

This release contains some limitations and workarounds to help solve certain problems. To view the updated list of known issues and limitations, check the Release Notes available at the HP Software Product Manuals web site.

Known Problems and Workarounds

Reports

Problem

The following reports in SHR show empty columns because the HP Operations agent does not collect data for the corresponding metrics:

  • The Virtualized Environment Management Logical System Inventory report has no data for 'Physical Memory' for virtual machines hosted on HyperV, LPAR, and Solaris Zones.
  • The Virtualized Environment Management Top and Bottom 10 Logical Systems report has no data for 'Average Memory Utilization' and 'Unavailability' metrics for LPAR systems.
  • The Virtualized Environment Management Logical System Performance Details report has no data for 'Logical CPU Utilization', 'Memory Utilization' and 'Memory Entitlement' metrics for HyperV logical systems.

There is no workaround for this problem.

Problem

The Microsoft Exchange Server Availability report shows incorrect values for Microsoft Exchange Servers that are configured with multiple roles. This happens in Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 where the Availability metric is logged per role instead of the server.

There is no workaround for this problem.

Problem

SHR considers the same Microsoft SQL Server node as two different nodes if HP Operations Manager discovers the same node twice, one with short name and another with fully qualified DNS name. Due to this there would be two different entries for the same SQL Server node in the dimension tables of SHR datawarehouse although the facts will be associated with only one of them. Hence in the reports the data will be seen only for one of the dimensions and not for both.

There is no workaround for this problem.

Problem

On the IBM WebSphere reports, the 'Select JDBC Name' prompt returns Thread Pool names along with JDBC Pool names. This issue occurs because Thread Pool names are logged instead of JDBC Pool names for the JDBCConnPoolWaitTime metrics by the IBM WebSphere SPI.

There is no workaround for this problem.

Problem

The data shown on the Microsoft Active Directory DC-GC Replication Delay report is not accurate. This is due to multiple records being logged for a given timestamp by the Microsoft Active Directory SPI.

There is no workaround for this problem.

Problem

The reports on Virtualization in SHR show empty columns due to non-availability of those metrics in the data logged by HP SiteScope in the BSM Profile database.

There is no workaround for this problem.

Limitations

Issues Fixed in this Release
