Getting Started

Installing the Service Test 11.52 Service Pack

  • The Service Test 11.52 Service Pack can be installed only after you have installed Service Test 11.50.
    • Important installation information and step-by-step installation instructions can be found in the HP ServiceTest Installation Guide. The Installation Guide is available in PDF format in the root folder of the Service Test DVD.
    • Alternatively, you can use the Service Test Installation QuickStart Sheet, which provides the details you need to know for a standard Service Test installation in a single, two-sided sheet.
    • You can also open these documents from the Service Test Help after you install Service Test.
    • If you installed only the Run Results Viewer from the Service Test 11.50 DVD, you cannot upgrade it to 11.52 directly. You must first download and install the latest version of Run Results Viewer 11.50 from the Unified Functional Testing/Other Files section of the HPLN Portal (requires HP Passport). Afterwards, you can install the Run Results Viewer 11.52 patch.

Before You Begin

Upgrading Service Test Assets
  • Service Test 11.52 provides a Batch Upgrader command line tool, STBatchUpgrader.exe, located in the <Service Test installation>/bin folder. This tool lets you run a batch file to upgrade tests last saved in Service Test, version 11.10 or 11.20, making them compatible for Service Test 11.52.
  • If you do not upgrade your tests with the Batch Upgrader tool, when you open a test created in version 11.10 or 11.20, it prompts you to upgrade the test.

For details, on the Batch Upgrader command line tool, see the Service Test Help, available from the Service Test Help menu.

  • For tests and components created in Service Test 11.00, you must first open and save them in Service Test 11.10, before you can upgrade them to Service Test 11.52.
Useful Documents
  • After you install, you may want to refer to the following items, available from the Service Test Help menu.
    • Service Test Tutorial. If you are using Service Test for the first time, use the Service Test Tutorial to learn how to work with several of the most commonly used features.
    • Service Test Help. A single-point of access for comprehensive product information in Help and/or PDF format. The Using this Help section describes how to navigate, use, and get updates for the Service Test Help.

Hotfix and Patch Information

If you install a hotfix or patch over Service Test 11.52, information about that patch is described in the corresponding hotfix or patch readme.

If the information in a hotfix or patch readme conflicts with information in the Service Test Readme or any other Service Test documentation, the information in the hotfix or patch readme takes precedence.

  • Before You Install
  • Supplemental Information

Before You Install

This section includes information that is important for you to know before you install Service Test, and includes the following:

  • Installation and Licensing
  • ALM Integration
  • Documentation
Installation and Licensing
  • You cannot install Microsoft Office 64-bit on a machine with Service Test.
  • Workaround:

    1. Uninstall the Microsoft Office Access database engine (which is installed as part of the Service Test 11.50 installation).
    2. Install Microsoft Office 64-bit.
    3. Re-install the Microsoft Office Access database engine from the prerequisites\msade2007 folder of the Service Test 11.50 DVD.
  • The path in which installation files for Service Test are located, and the path in which Service Test is installed, can contain only English characters.
  • Service Test does not support Windows user names with non-English letters. If you log in to Windows using a user name (with administrative privileges) that contains non-English characters and then install Service Test, the installation may complete successfully, but you may not be able to open Service Test or it may not behave correctly.
  • Service Test supports the Sentinel RMS License Manager version 8.4.0 as its concurrent license server. Earlier versions of the concurrent license server are not supported.
ALM Integration
  • Before you can connect Service Test to an ALM 11.50 server, your ALM administrator must install the ALM Integration Enablement Pack (available from HP Software Support) or upgrade to ALM 11.52.
  • Working with components stored in ALM 11.50 (with the ALM Integration Enablement Pack) is provided only at a Technology Preview level.
Documentation
  • Due to security settings on server operating systems, you must add about:internet to the Internet Explorer Trusted Sites list in order to view the contents of the Service Test Help.
  • Much of the Service Test 11.52 Help content is being delivered in a new WebHelp format. However, the UFT Service Pack installation does not remove obsolete files. Therefore, the CHM files located in the <Service Test installation>\help folder are obsolete.
  • Do not open CHM files directly from the Service Test Help folder. Instead, access the official documentation via the Service Test Help menu or the Service Test program group in the Windows Start menu (or Windows 8/2012 Apps page).

Supplemental Information

Use the information in this section as a supplement to (or if relevant, an override of) the relevant information in the product documentation.

Note: Additional troubleshooting information, guidelines, and feature-specific limitations are described in the relevant locations of the installation and product documentation. Make sure you are aware of those issues when working with the relevant features.

  • If you are using both Service Test and Sprinter on the same computer, and you uninstall either Service Test or Sprinter, you must repair the installation of the remaining product.
