Supported Environments


HP Data Protector runs in the operating system environments listed in the HP Data Protector Platform and Integration Support Matrix. For more information, see Installation Notes.


Installation Notes


Installation requirements, as well as instructions for installing HP Data Protector, are documented in the HP Data Protector Installation and Licensing Guide provided in PDF (.pdf) format. You can find the guide at this location in the temporary directory where you have extracted the installation packages:

Data_Protector_home\docs (on a Windows system)

/opt/omni/doc/C (on a UNIX system)


where Data_Protector_home is the full path of the chosen installation folder (on a Windows system).

Software and Hardware Requirements


Before installing HP Data Protector, make sure that your system meets the minimum requirements with respect to hardware, operating systems, software, and disk space. These are documented in:


Installation Steps


There are two HP Data Protector distribution methods used: electronic and physical. You can obtain the product:


If you have downloaded the installation packages, to install the product, extract them to a temporary directory. To start the installation process, perform the following:


Windows systems:

  1. Open the appropriate subdirectory of the temporary directory (i386 for 32-bit systems, x8664 for AMD64/Intel EM64T systems, or ia64 for Itanium systems).
  2. Run setup.exe.

UNIX systems:

  1. Open a terminal window and change the current directory to <TemporaryDirectory>\LOCAL_INSTALL.
  2. Run omnisetup.sh.

To continue with the installation process on a specific platform, follow the installation instructions for this platform provided in the HP Data Protector Installation and Licensing Guide.


If you have purchased the physical installation media, to install the product on a specific platform, follow the installation instructions for this platform provided in the HP Data Protector Installation and Licensing Guide.
