Single media for installation process of the HP Operations agent and Infrastructure SPIs
The HP Operations Agent and Infrastructure SPIs media provides both the HP Operations
Agent and Infrastructure SPIs packages and enables you to install both the products with the oainstall
program. For more information about installation, see HP Operations Agent and Smart Plug-in for Infrastructure Installation Guide.
Before installing the CI SPI, make sure that your system meets the following minimum requirements for HP Operations Manager (HPOM) management server and managed nodes.
For information about the supported operating system architectures, operating system release versions, required patches, and recent updates, visit the support matrix URL: HP Software Support Matrix.
The Infrastructure Smart Plug-ins (SPIs) are supported on HPOM for Windows, HP-UX, Linux, and Solaris operating systems. The following table lists HPOM requirements and the HP Software products you must install on the management server. The patches mentioned are the minimum applicable level. Always apply the latest available patches.

The Infrastructure SPIs support nodes running Windows, AIX, Linux, HP-UX, or Solaris operating systems. The following table lists the agent version that you must deploy on the managed nodes. You must install the latest patch available for the agents.
Product Name | Version Supported |
---|---|
HP Operations Agent | 11.11 |
No separate license is required for the CI SPI. It is included with the purchase of HP Software Operations Agent LTUs (License to Use). Separate LTUs for SI SPI, CI SPI, and VI SPI are included with each HP Software Operations Agent LTU.
Installation requirements, as well as instructions for installing the CI SPI are documented in the Installation Guide (HP Operations Agent and Smart Plug-in for Infrastructure Installation Guide).
In this release of CI SPI, the language of the policies auto-deployed on the nodes depends on the locale of the HPOM for Windows management server and not the node's locale.
The known problems and workarounds for this release of CI SPI are listed below:
Workaround: Before you edit or customize the instrumentation scripts, remove the Ctrl-M(^M) characters using the following command as appropriate:
- On HP-UX, Solaris, Linux, and AIX system run: sed –i “s/^M//g”
Note ^M is NOT SHIFT+6 + M. To run the command, type CTRL+V+M.
- Alternatively, on Linux system you can run: dos2unix (or other such utility on the scripts).
Workaround: To manually update the hearbeat polling protocol for the SNMP node to ICMP, follow these steps:
- In the HPOM for Windows management server console, right-click the SNMP node.
- Choose Properties from the pop-up menu.
- Click the Network tab.
- Under Heartbeat Polling, change the value of Polling to Custom and the value of Ping Protocol to ICMP Only.
- Click Apply and then click OK.
Workaround: You must manually set the XPL config for CLUSTER_LOCAL_NODENAME on all clusters before deploying CI SPI policies. If you do not manually set the XPL config and you run ovclusterinfo –a command, the error appears as 'Cannot get cluster state from the local machine'. Before deploying the CI SPI policies on the cluster nodes, follow these steps to set the XPL config:
- Check if the namespace conf.cluster is created in the nodeinfo file(XPL). Type ovconfget conf.cluster.
The namespace should have the following 3 entries
[conf.cluster]
CLUSTER_TYPE=AIX Cluster (HACMP)
MONITOR_MODE=TRUE
POLLING_INTERVAL=10000- If these values are not present, restart ovconfd. To restart ovconfd, run the command ovc -restart ovconfd.
- Add CLUSTER_LOCAL_NODENAME along with the hostname configured in the cluster. For example, CLUSTER_LOCAL_NODENAME=testsun1; where, 'testsun1' is the name configured in the HA cluster configuration.
Workaround: Follow these steps:
On HPOM for Windows:
On HPOM for Unix/Linux/Solaris:
- cd
%ovsharedir%\instrumentation\categories\SystemsInfrastructure _v200
.- Edit OvCluster.pm.
- Replace the old code with the new code given below:
Old code:
$dr->AddAttr("hClusterRG".$rg->{"rgname"}, "dynamicrgtype", "><Resource Group");
New code:
$dr->AddAttr("hClusterRG".$rg->{"rgname"}, "dynamicrgtype", eval {my $z = `ovxplmsg -c $catalog -m 23 -t "Resource Group"`;$z =~ s/\\x22/\x22/g;$z =~ s/\\x25/\x25/g;$z =~ s/\\x27/\x27/g;$z =~ s/\\\\/\\/g;$z =~ s/\\\$/@%@%@/g;$z =~ s/(\$[\w_!?]+[\[\{][\w_!?\$]+[\]\}])/$1/eeg;$z =~ s/(\$[\w_!?^]+)/$1/eeg;$z =~ s/@%@%@/\$/g;$z =~ s/\\x24/\x24/g;chomp($z);return($z);});
- Save the file and re-deploy the instrumentation to the nodes.
- cd
/var/opt/OV/share/databases/OpC/mgd_node/instrumentation/SystemsInfrastructure _v200
.- Edit OvCluster.pm.
- Replace the old code with the new code given below:
Old code:
$dr->AddAttr("hClusterRG".$rg->{"rgname"}, "dynamicrgtype", "><Resource Group");
New code:
$dr->AddAttr("hClusterRG".$rg->{"rgname"}, "dynamicrgtype", eval {my $z = `ovxplmsg -c $catalog -m 23 -t "Resource Group"`;$z =~ s/\\x22/\x22/g;$z =~ s/\\x25/\x25/g;$z =~ s/\\x27/\x27/g;$z =~ s/\\\\/\\/g;$z =~ s/\\\$/@%@%@/g;$z =~ s/(\$[\w_!?]+[\[\{][\w_!?\$]+[\]\}])/$1/eeg;$z =~ s/(\$[\w_!?^]+)/$1/eeg;$z =~ s/@%@%@/\$/g;$z =~ s/\\x24/\x24/g;chomp($z);return($z);});
- Save the file and re-deploy the instrumentation to the nodes.
Workaround: Check the policy versions to check if Infra SPI 2.01 patch is installed or not.
Workaround: Before upgrading Infrastructure SPI from 2.00 or 2.01 to 11.10 or 11.11, create a copy of the policy group Infrastructure Management and rename it. For example: Create a copy of the policy group Infrastructure Management and rename it to Infrastructure Management 2_01, where 2_01 is version number.
