WLS-SPI is a full-featured
SPI that allows you to manage WebLogic Application Servers from an HP OpenView
Operations console.
The following is a summary of the enhancements and fixes that have been made in
version B.03.61 (more detailed information is available in
Enhancements and Fixes):
- Support of HP OpenView Operations for Windows 7.5 including
clusters and HP OpenView Reporter 3.6.
- Support of new platforms including Linux, Tru64,
and AIX (refer to Installation Notes
for the exact versions).
- JMX Metric Builder (JMB) application, a GUI for creating and editing
JMX metrics for the WLS-SPI. Refer to the HP OpenView JMX Metric
Builder Release Notes for more information.
- JMX Connector, an application that allows the WLS-SPI
to gather data from application MBeans registered in a JMX-compliant
MBean server (such as JBoss, Tomcat, or the WebLogic Server
built-in MBean server). This data can be used to create user
defined metrics (UDMs).
- JMX Actions, an enhancement that allows a metric to
perform one or more JMX calls (invoke, get, set) on an
MBean instance or type.
- SSL for WebLogic Server, an enhancement that allows the WLS-SPI to monitor
WebLogic Servers that are using SSL.
- Autoacknowledgment of messages, a fix that automatically acknowledges
browser messages when the
metric drops back down below the threshold. This makes the browser more of a
state based browser and eliminates clutter in the browser by automatically
acknowledging messages when the state of a metric changes from one severity to
another or all the way back to normal.
- Self-Healing Services, a tool and support from the
HP Self-Healing Services web site for assistance in troubleshooting
problems with the WLS-SPI. You can either run the tool or download the
software from the web site to start the process. See the
troubleshooting sections in both the Smart Plug-in
for BEA WebLogic Server Configuration Guide and the Smart
Plug-ins, New and Upgraded, CD Installation Guide for details
on how to use the tool and the client software from the web site.
- Support for HP OpenView Performance Insight (OVPI), an application that
monitors network performance and delivers information about performance
trends and issues. OVPI must be
purchased separately.
- Support for OpenView Performance Manager 5.0 (OVPM), an
application used to customize generated graphs. OVPM must be
purchased separately.
- Performance enhancements (detailed information is available in
Enhancements and Fixes).
Installation instructions for the WLS-SPI are
documented in the HP OpenView Smart Plug-in for BEA WebLogic Server
Configuration Guide
provided in Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) format. The document file is included on the product's
CD media as:
\Documentation\SPI Guides\WebLogic_AppServer_Config.pdf

incorrect.

The following problem is known in the current
software release. To display details about each problem (including workaround
information), click the problem text. To hide details, click again.
Discovery, Discover WebLogic, and/or Configure WLSSPI hang.
| Problem: |
The Discovery policy, the Discover WebLogic tool, and/or the
Configure WLSSPI tool hang. |
| Cause: |
When one of these components is run, it locks the configuration
file so that the file cannot be overwritten. If you select STOP
in the Console Status window or something causes one of these
components to abort while running (for example, a failover), the lock
is not removed from the configuration file. If one of
these components is then started, the component patiently waits for the lock to
be removed before it can continue. |
| Workaround: |
Remove the lock directory on the management server:
<OvOWShareInstallDir>\SPI-Share\wasspi\wls\conf\SiteConfig.lock
where <OvOWShareInstallDir> is typically
<drive>:\Program Files\HP OpenView\Data\shared\
If this directory is more than two hours old, the locking mechanism
automatically deletes the lock directory.
|
---|
QXCR1000189783: Tracing stops or the collector hangs when tracing is on.
| Problem: |
If tracing is enabled, when the first 20 MB trace file limit is reached,
tracing either stops or the collector hangs and stops monitoring the web
application servers. |
| Workaround: |
Enable tracing for a short amount of time. Limit tracing to 5-6 hours
as the 20 MB file limit of is reached in approximately 7 hours.
|
---|
GRAPH_SERVER and GRAPH_URL properties can be set.
| Problem: |
The GRAPH_SERVER and GRAPH_URL properties can be set but they
are not necessary. |
| Workaround: |
Do not set the GRAPH_SERVER and GRAPH_URL properties.
