The MSVS SPI integrates fully with HP OpenView
Operations for Windows (OVO). The SPI extends the management
scope of OVO to include the virtual computer environment of Microsoft Virtual Server.
The features provided by the MSVS SPI are detailed below:
- Service Discovery: The MSVS SPI discovers the Microsoft Virtual Server
services running on an OVO managed node and creates the service map in OVO.
The services that are discovered are virtual networks, virtual hard disks, virtual
machines (VMs), and the host resources. When a Guest system is added as a managed
node to OVO, a dependency to the System Infrastructure service of the Smart
Plug-in for Microsoft Windows OS (Windows OS SPI) is created.
- Policies: The SPI includes policies to collect data and monitor the CPU,
network utilization, and disk utilization of VMs.
- Tools: The SPI includes tools to administer the Virtual
Server environment and to perform maintenance tasks.
- Graphs: The graphs on the host machine show the resource
(disk, CPU and network) utilization of the VMs.
- Reports: The reports detail the usage trends of host
resources and the VMs.
Installation requirements, as well as instructions for installing the MSVS SPI are documented in Smart Plug-ins CD for OpenView Operations Installation/Upgrade Guide provided in Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) format.
Before installing the MSVS SPI, make sure that your
system meets the following requirements. For the management server
requirements, refer to the OVO version 7.5 requirements.
Software
- OVO 7.5 management server
- Virtual Machine Remote Client (VMRC) version 1.1.465 on the management server. This is required only to run tools that launch the VMRC and Web
clients.
