PeopleTools 8.44)
§
Monitors, detects, and
displays the status of PeopleSoft batch jobs as well as components such as the
process scheduler
§
Monitors log-files
dynamically to keep track of any important events registered in the various,
distributed error logs from PeopleSoft, Tuxedo, and any databases.
§
Provides
pre-configured automatic actions help to ensure minimum server down time
§
Pre-defined reports
identify the owners of batch jobs that are causing problems (such as high
system load) and help to prevent performance bottlenecks
§
Monitors the status of
all the crucial components in the PeopleSoft environment, such as applications
and application servers, database servers, and sub-systems such as Tuxedo
Installation requirements, as well as instructions for
installing the PeopleSoft SPI, are documented in the Administrator’s Reference Guide for the PeopleSoft
SPI provided
in Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) format. The document file is included on the product's
CD media as:
Vol 1-SPI for OVOW\Documentation\SPI
Guides\PeopleSoft_Config.pdf
The Software and Hardware Requirements are listed in
the Administrator’s Reference Guide for
the PeopleSoft SPI.
There are no SPI specific upgrade steps when an
upgrade of the OVOW management server is performed. For upgrade details see the
OVOW upgrade documentation.
NOTE: If the PSSPI
discovery file is manually updated or compiled, use the following format for
the PeopleTools version x.yz, e.g. "8.44" instead of
"8.44.10".
The intention of this release is to support Unix
managed nodes and PeopleTools 8.44.
Discovery/Activation
|
PROBLEM: |
If there are multiple PeopleSoft databases or
Application server domains with identical names on a single system with
multiple PeopleSoft installations, only one will be accepted by the discovery
process. A message similar to the following will be printed when running the PS Discovery application: ERROR: Duplicate
PeopleSoft DB name hcdmo754 in different PS_HOMEs: c:\ps_tge and d:\TEST\psoft. Ignoring
for D:\TEST\psoft.. |
|
|
|
|
SOLUTION: |
With this release of the SPI names of PeopleSoft elements must be
unique on one system. |
OVO Instrumentation - 1
|
PROBLEM: |
If a PeopleSoft Application server domain crashed or
has been aborted ungraceful the SPI TMIB monitor may hang when accessing the
Tuxedo TMIB. An indication is an OVO message appearing similar to: Can’t start monitor script
for object ’PSSPI-TMIB-Col-05min_1’. Script still running. (OpC30-610) |
|
|
|
|
SOLUTION: |
Always shutdown domains properly. Try to re-boot or re-configure the
domain. If this does not help you may need to re-boot the whole system. |
OVO Instrumentation - 2
|
PROBLEM: |
SPI log file templates are still active even if the SPI has been
turned off. Unexpected OVO messages may arrive. |
|
|
|
|
SOLUTION: |
The COLLECTION state in the file psspi.cfg affects only monitor
scripts and programs but not log file templates. Use the OVO utility
opctemplate to disable and enable templates. See the PeopleSoft SPI manual
for details (Templates and Monitors on MC/ServiceGuard Nodes). |
OVO Policy and Instrumentation Deployment
|
PROBLEM: |
If SPI templates have been distributed before the
instrumentation has been deployed, OVO messages similar to the following may
appear: Logfile <‘perl -S
psspi_appsv.pl‘> doesn’t exist. Treating as empty. (OpC30-108) |
|
|
|
|
SOLUTION: |
Always make sure that the instrumentation is deployed before the
templates. |
OVPA/CODA Integration
|
PROBLEM: |
If a PeopleSoft Application server domain is down, the previous values
about all other domain parameters will be used, i.e. the graphs will show a
non-zero number of server processes, even if the domain is down. |
|
|
|
|
SOLUTION: |
Ignore the other graphs if the domain graph shows a zero value. |
|
|
|
|
PROBLEM: |
If OVPA is used on Linux managed nodes, the tool PS Activate may seem to hang, i.e. if started from the OVOW
console, the tool is never terminated and does not present any results. In
addition, the OVO agent on the managed is restarted. |
|
|
|
|
SOLUTION: |
If OVPA is used on Linux managed nodes, the activation of the
discovery results should not be started via the OVOW console tool, but
manually on the managed node. In order to activate the discovery file, log in to the Linux managed node
and execute the command /opt/OV/psspi/bin/psspi_disc/psspi_ract_ux.sh. |
Service Integration
|
PROBLEM: |
Unix managed nodes are not integrated automatically into the PSSPI
service views. |
|
|
|
|
SOLUTION: |
Add the Unix managed nodes manually to the PSSPI service views. Note
that the service names must follow a specific naming. For details, see the Administrator’s Reference Guide for the PeopleSoft
SPI. |
§
Chapter 3, page 37
In
the documentation, the policy groups PSSPI-DB2DB_Server and PSSPI-Win_DB2DB_Server
are mentioned, but they do not appear in the OVOW console after installation of
the HP
OpenView Smart Plug-in for PeopleSoft.
These policy groups actually do
not exist and their reference in the documentation is wrong.
§
Chapter 3, page
37; Chapter 4, page 76, 91, 92
In
the documentation, the policy groups PSSPI-Web_Server and PSSPI-Win_Web_Server
are mentioned, but they do not appear in the OVOW console after installation of
the HP
OpenView Smart Plug-in for PeopleSoft.
These policy groups have been
removed from the SPI and their reference in the documentation is wrong.
To monitor the web servers in a
PeopleSoft environment, use the appropriate Smart Plug-in:
o
HP OpenView Smart
Plug-in for Web Servers, for monitoring the Apache web server
o
HP OpenView Smart
Plug-in for Web Sphere, for monitoring Web Sphere
o
HP OpenView Smart
Plug-in for BEA Weblogic Server, for monitoring BEA WebLogic
The HP OpenView Smart Plug-in for PeopleSoft works
with the SPI for Databases (Oracle, MSSQL) and the specific Smart Plug-ins for monitoring
web servers.
