This document provides an overview of the changes made to hp OpenView Smart Plug-in for Microsoft Enterprise Servers (MSES SPI) for the B.04.51 release. It contains important information not included in the online help.

In This Version

This version of the MSES SPI is only supported running with OVO for Windows 7.5. It manages the following Microsoft Enterprise Servers and versions of servers:

  • Application Center 2000
  • BizTalk Server 2000, 2002 and 2004
  • Commerce Server 2000 and 2002
  • Content Management Server 2001 and 2002
  • Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2000
  • SharePoint Portal Server 2001 and 2003.
  • The following new features have been added to this release:

  • New policies to monitor Biztalk 2004 Server performance counters.
  • New reports for Biztalk 2004 server.
  • New policies to monitor database connections for Biztalk 2004 server.
  • The MSES SPI is now installable on an OVOW Clustered node.
  • The MSES SPI now integrates with the OpenView Self healing data collector for enhanced troubleshooting support.
  • Upgrade Procedures

    To upgrade from a previous version of the MSES SPI, follow one of the following five upgrade scenarios:

    Upgrade Scenario 1:

  • Upgrade from OVOW 7.21 + MSESSPI B.04.00
  • Follow steps 1 and 7 outlined below.

    Upgrade Scenario 2:

  • Upgrade from OVOW 7.21 + MSESSPI B.03.00
  • Follow steps 1, 2, 3, 6 and 7 outlined below.

    Upgrade Scenario 3:

  • Upgrade from OVOW 7.21 + MSESSPI B.02.00
  • Follow steps 1, 2, 3, 6 and 7 outlined below.

    Upgrade Scenario 4:

  • Upgrade from OVOW 7.20 + MSESSPI B.02.00
  • Required patches: OVOW_00075
  • Follow steps 1, 2, 3, 6 and 7 outlined below.

    Upgrade Scenario 5:

  • Upgrade from OVOW 7.10 + MSESSPI B.01.00
  • Required patches: OVOW_00050, OVOW_00052, and OVOW_00075
  • Follow the steps 1, 2, 4, 6 and 7 outlined below.

    Upgrade Scenario 6:

  • Upgrade from OVOW 7.10 + MSESSPI B.01.00 (Smart Plug-ins, New and Upgraded, CD for OpenView Operations/Performance for Windows Version A.0.7.21 for OVO for Windows was already used).
  • Required patches: OVOW_00050, OVOW_00052, and OVOW_00075
  • Follow the steps 1, 2, 5, 6 and 7 outlined below.

    Step 1

    To avoid overwriting custom policies:

    1. Save any modified/customized policies into a location on the management server (away from the SPI for Microsoft Enterprise Servers folder), or rename the SPI for Enterprise Servers policy group.

    Do the same for the install log file if you need to retain the previous version.

    Step 2

    Remove all SPI for Microsoft Enterprise Servers policies from the managed nodes:

    1. In the console expand the folder Policy Management.
    2. Right-click SPI for Microsoft Enterprise Servers and select All tasks > Uninstall from...
    3. In the Uninstall policies on... window, check the nodes from which the policies should be removed.
    4. Click OK.

    Step 3 (only for Scenarios 1, 2 & 3, not applicable for upgrading from OVOW 7.10)

    Uninstall MSES SPI programs from the OVO management server:

    1. Insert the Application CD 1 into the CD-ROM drive.
    2. Follow instructions as they appear, and start the uninstall procedure by pressing the Remove products button.
    3. In the Product Selection Uninstall window select Microsoft Enterprise Servers (SPI) and click Next.
    4. In the next window select Remove, you are updated on the progress of the program removal, then click Finish to complete.

    Step 4 (only for Scenario 4, not applicable for other scenarios)

    1. Remove all SPI for Microsoft Enterprise Servers policies from the managed nodes.
    2. Insert the 7.10 HP OpenView Operations/Performance for Windows CD (Disk 1) into the CD-ROM drive.
    3. Follow instructions as they appear, and start the uninstall procedure by pressing the Remove products button.
    4. In the Product Selection Uninstall window select Microsoft Enterprise Servers (SPI) and click Next.
    5. In the next window select Remove. You are updated on the progress of the program removal, click Finish to complete.

    Step 5 (only for Scenario 5, not applicable for other scenarios)

    1. Remove all SPI for Microsoft Enterprise Servers policies from the managed nodes.
    2. From the Support directory on "Smart Plug-ins, New and Upgraded, CD for OpenView Operations/Performance for Windows Version A.0.7.5" CD 2, doubleclick the MSESSPI_1.0.msi file.
    3. Follow instructions as they appear, and start the uninstall procedure by pressing the Remove button.
    4. Run the "Smart Plug-ins, New and Upgraded, CD for OpenView Operations/Performance for Windows Version A.0.7.5 for OVO for Windows" installer again to install the Microsoft Enterprise Servers SPI.

    To uninstall the new version of the Microsoft Enterprise Servers SPI follow the usual procedure:

    1. In the Product Selection Uninstall window select Microsoft Enterprise Servers (SPI) and click Next.
    2. In the next window select Remove. (You are updated on the progress of the program removal).
    3. Click Finish to complete.

    Step 6

    Delete the SPI for Microsoft Enterprise Servers policy group from the management server:

    1. In the console expand the folder Policy groups.
    2. Right-click SPI for Microsoft Enterprise Servers and select Delete.

    Step 7

    Install the B.04.51  version of the Microsoft Enterprise Servers SPI from the hp OpenView, New and Upgraded Smart Plug-Ins for OV operations for Windows 7.5, Volume 1 CD.

    Known Problems, Limitations, and Workarounds

    Database monitoring tool cannot be launched from a remote console:

    The Database monitoring tool cannot be launched from a remote console, it can only be launched from the management server.
