HP Universal CMDB Configuration Manager Deployment Guide PDF. Available from the documentation directory in your installation media. Explains the hardware and software requirements needed to set up Configuration Manager, how to install or upgrade Configuration Manager, how to harden the system, and how to log in to the application.

Configuration Manager Online Help. Online Help is available from specific Configuration Manager modules and dialog boxes by the Help button, or by selecing Help on this page from the Help menu.

What's New

Version 9.30 of HP Universal CMDB Configuration Manager puts an emphasis on controlling changes and performing change management (and other IT management processes) according to configuration standards.

Email Notifications

Configuration Manager can be configured to send email notifications when policy breaches or unauthorized changes are detected by the system. These notifications help to drive the configuration process by alerting and enabling the users to log in to Configuration Manager to review these issues.

Enhanced Closed-Loop Change and Configuration integration

Configuration Manager extends the CCRM solution as well by providing a post-implementation procedure for reviewing and validating RFCs. Configuration Manager can drive changes (RFCs) from within the Configuration Management process, to roll back undesired changes or to remediate a deviation from defined standards (policy breaches).

Consume Configuration Manager Information in External Applications

Configuration Manager information such as policy statuses, policy summary KPIs for a business Service, and authorization status can now be consumed by external applications, using UCMDB's federation mechanism. You can create UCMDB topology reports or consume the data using TQL queries and the UCMDB SDK. An example of consuming this information is the new ability to see KPIs related to Configuration Manager in the BSM CI-360 view.

Improvements in Change-Related Reports

Change-related reports in Configuration Manager have been improved to include related RFCs and attribute level changes. For example, you can use these reports to review all authorized unplanned changes.

Launch External Applications from within Configuration Manager

Configuration Manager now provides a mechanism to configure a generic UI integration that can launch any application user interface in the context of a UCMDB CI or a UCMDB view. For example, you can launch the HP Enterprise Collaboration user interface in order to open a new discussion related to an issue that may have been found on some CI.

Installation

HP Universal CMDB Configuration Manager version 9.30 can be installed by itself or in conjunction with HP Universal CMDB version 9.04 with CUP 3. In addition, Configuration Manager can be installed with the following specialized configurations:

in a UCMDB High Availability environment
using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)

The installation media contains the following top-level files:

This readme file (readme.html).
The HP Universal CMDB Configuration Manager Deployment Guide (CM_Deployment_Guide.pdf).
The Windows installation package, which contains the various installation files and full documentation set (HP_UCMDBCM_9.30.zip). Unzip these files to a temporary directory.
The CM-install.bin file (used for installing or upgrading Configuration Manager on a Linux system).

If you are not installing UCMDB at the same time that you install Configuration Manager, make sure that you download and install the latest Cumulative Update Patch (CUP) for UCMDB. You must do this before installing Configuration Manager.

You can download the latest CUP instructions and installation file from the following location: http://support.openview.hp.com/selfsolve/patches.

Notes and Limitations

You cannot import a view that contains non-English characters in its name using the importData method in the JMX console.
After defining a new folding rule in UCMDB, you must restart the Configuration Manager server before you can create a configuration model that uses the new component as part of a composite CI. You should also restart the Configuration Manager server after adding new layers or new classification values in UCMDB.
When using Configuration Manager with Internet Explorer 9, you must work in compatibility mode.
Configuration Manager does not start on a Linux system using an Oracle database that is accessed with a fully qualified domain name (FQDN) in the database URL. To enable connection to the server, define the server name without the domain.
KPIs that are on Running Software CIs, do not function in Business Service Management.
Only files that were exported using the command line exportCS utility can be imported using the command line importCS utility.
In rare cases, a change made to a CI may not be recorded in UCMDB's history. In such a case, you cannot see the change in the UI, even though the CI is marked as modified. The implications are that you will keep seeing the old value. In addition, the CI will continue to be marked as "modified", even after the user "authorizes" it. You can rectify this problem by making another change to the same problematic attribute, whose last change was not recorded in UCMDB's history.
The time settings on the UCMDB and Configuration Manager servers must be synchronized, down to the seconds.
The time zone and time format on the UCMDB and Service Manager servers must be synchronized.
An invalid or expired SSL certificate on the HP Operations Orchestration side may prevent flows from being displayed in the Flow Tree of the Automation Management module.
If a specific CI has more than one Composition relationship, and you try to authorize one of the composition CIs, you may be required to authorize all other composition CIs that contain the specific CI.
If you are upgrading the default installation of HP Universal CMDB from version 9.03 to version 9.04, you may stay with CP8 OR install CP9.
When you export a View Summary report in PDF format in a non-Latin language, words in the table's heading may get cut off.
Out of the box, Configuration Manager provides a single role (System Administrator), which includes all permissions.
UCMDB version 9.03 with Content Pack 9.00 contains Configuration Management content on the VMware domain. To see the VMWare ESX Server, Vmware Cluster, and VMware Resource pool CITs in the correct layer, do the following in UCMDB if you have installed Content Pack 9.00:
Install CUP5 or later. For details, see the CUP5 readme.
Navigate to Modeling > CI Type Manager. From the CI Types menu, select System Type Manager.
In the System Type Manager window, select layer_enum and click the Edit icon.
Click the Add icon to add a new value. Enter virtualization_infrastructure, click OK, and then click Apply.
In the CI Type Manager, select the VMWare ESX Server CI type and click the Attributes tab in the right pane.
In the CI Types pane, click the Refresh icon to update the CI type.
Select the layer attribute and click the Edit icon to open the Edit Attribute dialog box.
On the Details tab, from the Default Value list, select the new value that you added to layer_enum.
Click OK, and then click the Save icon in the CI Types pane.

Note: You must restart Configuration Manager to see this change.

In addition, do the following in Configuration Manager:

Navigate to System > Settings > Application Management > Topology Presentation > Topology Layout.
In the Layers pane, click the Add configuration to configuration set icon.
In the Display Name field, enter a name for the new layer.
From the Name list, select visualization_infrastructure.
In the Level Number field, enter 5.
In the Level Number field for the Facilities layer, enter 6.
Click the Save icon to save the new configuration set.
In the Save as Draft dialog box, enter a name for the new configuration set and click Save.
Click the Activate current configuration set icon to activate the configuration set that you just saved.
When working with SiteMinder on an IIS server, you must create the following DWORD registry entries in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\
CurrentControlSet\Services\HTTP\Parameters:
Set UrlSegmentMaxLength to 0
Set AllowRestrictedChars to 1

The OO and UCMDB integration passwords are now encrypted in the database. When exporting the configuration set from one machine and importing it into a different machine, make sure that same encryption key is used on both machines. Copy the following information from the source installation to the target installation:
the encryption.properties file (located in the <Configuration Manager installation directory>/conf folder).
the contents of the security directory (located in the <Configuration Manager installation directory>/security folder).

Use the encrypt-password utility to encrypt the db.password key in the the database.properties file. In the Settings module in Configuration Manager, re-enter passwords for the old configuration set, then save and activate the configuration set.

If the keys are not identical on both machines, after importing the configuration set, you must enter the Settings module in Configuration Manager and re-enter passwords for the imported configuration set, then save and activate the configuration set.

If you need to rerun the Post-Installation wizard, you must re-encrypt the OO and UCMDB integration passwords as follows:

Note: This procedure is relevant only if you are upgrading from version 9.10 to version 9.30 or later.

Launch your Web browser and enter the following address:
http://<server_name>:<port_number>/cnc/jmx-console, where <server_name> is the name of the machine on which Configuration Manager is installed.
Enter the JMX console authentication credentials, which by default are:
Login name = admin
Password = admin
Under Configuration-Set, click Configuration set service.
Select the encryptAllConfigurationSets utility and click Invoke.
Configuring the reverse proxy on a domain other than the domain where Configuration Manager is installed will result in an error when trying to access Configuration Manager.
To encrypt the passwords of historical configuration sets, do the following:

Note: This procedure is relevant only if you are upgrading from version 9.10 to version 9.30 or later.

Launch your Web browser and enter the following address: http://<server_name>:<port_number>/cnc/jmx-console, where <server_name> is the name of the machine on which Configuration Manager is installed.
Enter the JMX console authentication credentials, which by default are:
Login name = admin
Password = admin
Under Configuration Set, click the encryptAllConfigurationSet service.
Click Invoke.
The Policy Preview screen in the Policy Management module can only calculate results for views with up to 1,000 composite CIs.
When you use flows from HP Operations Orchestration version 7.51 that you added into Configuration Manager, the following issues occur:
When you configure an automation, you cannot add a flow to the automation list if the flow includes the Single Value - Selection Lists or List of Values – Selection List parameter types.
When you attempt to execute an automation, when the parameter type is List of Values, the execution fails.
Generating segments in the Environment Segmentation Analysis module might fail, if the Analysis Scope contains too many component CIs that are similar (according to the similarity level that you set). To solve this problem, do one of the following:
Remove CIs from the scope
Raise the similarity level
The Controlled Automations tab in Configuration Explorer does not display data for non-controlled automations.
Changes that occurred to CIs in UCMDB may not be reflected in Configuration Manager. If you see the following message in the UCMDB error log, this means that you have reached the limit of initialized patterns. The message is: The limit [3000] of maximum initialized patterns has been exceeded!!!!
In the System > Settings module, under Topology Layout, only managed attributes can be entered for layout exceptions.
When a link has been authorized and the authorization operation was successful, in some rare cases, the link may be displayed as unauthorized and if you attempt to re-authorize the CI, the authorization preview dialog may display without any content.

Workaround: Use the JMX as follows:

To analyze the views and check the validity of the composite link history:
Access the JMX: OfflineAnalysisJMX
Invoke the operation: checkViolatingLinks.
To analyze all views and fix any incorrect composite links:
Access the JMX: OfflineAnalysisJMX
Invoke the operation: fixViolatingLinks.

HP Universal CMDB Configuration Manager 9.20L Notes and Limitations

You cannot install Configuration Manager if UCMDB is installed behind a firewall (which blocks a required JMX port). To solve this problem, do one of the following:
Install Configuration Manager on the same side of the firewall as UCMDB.
Disable the firewall during the installation process.
After changing the language settings in Configuration Manager, you must log in again for the changes to take effect.
HP Software recommends that you set up your database on the same subnetwork on which Configuration Manager is installed.
When you export a View Summary report in PDF format in a non-Latin language, words in the table's heading may get cut off.
The HP Universal CMDB Configuration Manager Deployment Guide incorrectly lists the Internet Information Services (IIS) Web Server as being a prerequisite for using Single Sign-On functionality.
Out of the box, Configuration Manager provides a single role (System Administrator), which includes all permissions.
In the HP Universal CMDB Configuration Manager Deployment Guide, in the section about configuring Windows (NTLM) authentication, the following instruction should be added:

Update the db.user and db.password parameters in the database.properties file with the Windows authentication credentials for the database server.

Composite CI content for Configuration Manager is defined in the UCMDB class model. HP UCMDB Discovery and Integration Content Pack 9.00 provides new content for the following domains:
Node domain
Virtualization domain
Database domain

To benefit from this new content, you must install Content Pack 9.00. The Content Pack installation file, CP9_installation.zip, is located on the HP Live Network Web site (https://h20090.www2.hp.com/). Follow the DDM Content Packs link. You need an HP Passport user name and password to log in.

UCMDB with Content Pack 9.00 contains Configuration Management content on the VMware domain. To see the VMWare ESX Server, Vmware Cluster, and VMware Resource pool CITs in the correct layer, do the following in UCMDB:
Install CUP5 or later. For details, see the CUP5 readme.
Navigate to Modeling > CI Type Manager. From the CI Types menu, select System Type Manager.
In the System Type Manager window, select layer_enum and click the Edit icon.
Click the Add icon to add a new value. Enter virtualization_infrastructure, click OK, and then click Apply.
In the CI Type Manager, select the VMWare ESX Server CI type and click the Attributes tab in the right pane.
In the CI Types pane, click the Refresh icon to update the CI type.
Select the layer attribute and click the Edit icon to open the Edit Attribute dialog box.
On the Details tab, from the Default Value list, select the new value that you added to layer_enum.
Click OK, and then click the Save icon in the CI Types pane.

Note: You must restart Configuration Manager to see this change.

In addition, do the following in Configuration Manager:

Navigate to System > Settings > Application Management > Topology Presentation > Topology Layout.
In the Layers pane, click the Add configuration to configuration set icon.
In the Display Name field, enter a name for the new layer.
From the Name list, select visualization_infrastructure.
In the Level Number field, enter 5.
In the Level Number field for the Facilities layer, enter 6.
Click the Save icon to save the new configuration set.
In the Save as Draft dialog box, enter a name for the new configuration set and click Save.
Click the Activate current configuration set icon to activate the configuration set that you just saved.
Configuration Manager now supports working with up to 20,000 composite CIs in a single managed view. To enable this functionality, do the following:

Note:

If you want to enable this functionality, it is recommended to install Configuration Manager on a server that has a minimum of 8 GB of memory (RAM).
Managed views that are based on dynamic TQL queries and result in more than 20,000 composite CIs are not supported.
In the Configuration Manager JMX console, click Amber > View Service. Select supportLargeViews and click Invoke.
Change the value of the TQL Group View Result Size setting in UCMDB to 500,000 (Administration > Infrastructure Settings Manager > TQL Settings).
If you use the HP Universal CMDB Configuration Manager 9.20.0000 Windows service to start Configuration Manager, navigate to the <Configuration Manager installation directory>/bin/ directory and double-click the edit-server-0.bat file. In the Java tab, increase the value of the Maximum memory pool parameter to 4096 or greater.

When working with SiteMinder on an IIS server, you must create the following DWORD registry entries in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\
CurrentControlSet\Services\HTTP\Parameters:
Set UrlSegmentMaxLength to 0
Set AllowRestrictedChars to 1

HP Universal CMDB Configuration Manager 9.20 Notes and Limitations

Working with CA SiteMinder is not supported with Configuration Manager version 9.20.
The Configuration Manager installation directory must not contain spaces in its name, and can use only English letters (a-z), digits (0-9) and the hyphen sign ('-').
The installation wizard is available in English only.
When you connect to HP Operations Orchestration using the Deployment Manager, version 7.51 is used, even though the wizard page lists version 7.5.
When you use flows from HP Operations Orchestration version 7.51 that you added into Configuration Manager, the following issues occur:
When you configure an automation, you cannot add a flow to the automation list if the flow includes the Single Value - Selection Lists or List of Values – Selection List parameter types.
When you attempt to execute an automation, when the parameter type is List of Values, the execution fails.
Generating segments in the Environment Segmentation Analysis module might fail, if the Analysis Scope contains too many component CIs that are similar (according to the similarity level that you set). To solve this problem, do one of the following:
Remove CIs from the scope
Raise the similarity level
(Linux only) The Post-Installation wizard fails if a non-default JMX port for UCMDB is used. If necessary, you can change this port in the upgrade.properties file (located in the utilities\Upgrade folder in the Configuration Manager installation directory.
(Windows only) As part of the upgrade procedure, folding and matching rules are automatically copied to UCMDB. You can see a list of rules that were copied in the UpgradeContentReport.html file, located in the <Configuration Manager installation directory>\utilities\Upgrade\
current\ folder.
The Controlled Automations tab in Configuration Explorer does not display data for non-controlled automations.
Changes that occurred to CIs in UCMDB may not be reflected in Configuration Manager. If you see the following message in the UCMDB error log, this means that you have reached the limit of initialized patterns. The message is: The limit [3000] of maximum initialized patterns has been exceeded!!!!
In the section about configuring a reverse proxy in the HP Universal CMDB Configuration Manager Deployment Guide PDF, add the following lines to the example that appears:

ProxyPass /docs http://< CM_HOSTNAME >:<CM_HTTP_PORT>/docs
ProxyPassReverse /docs http:// <CM_HOSTNAME>:<CM_HTTP_PORT>
/docs

In the System > Settings module (previously Server Administration module), under Topology Layout, only managed attributes can be entered for layout exceptions.
When a link has been authorized and the authorization operation was successful, in some rare cases, the link may be displayed as unauthorized and if you attempt to re-authorize the CI, the authorization preview dialog may display without any content.

Workaround: Use the JMX as follows:

To analyze the views and check the validity of the composite link history:
Access the JMX: OfflineAnalysisJMX
Invoke the operation: checkViolatingLinks.
To analyze all views and fix any incorrect composite links:
Access the JMX: OfflineAnalysisJMX
Invoke the operation: fixViolatingLinks.

HP Universal CMDB 9.10L Configuration Manager Notes and Limitations

In the Server Administration module, the user interface includes the following changes:
Under Offline Purging, there is now only one option for storing history: Keep History (days), which determines the number of days that history is stored for snapshots, policies, and statistics.
The Root Class setting under System Parameters is removed.
In the Server Administration module, under Topology Layout, only managed attributes can be entered for layout exceptions.
The Automatic Authorization option in the View Administration module is renamed Automatic State Transition.
In the Details pane of the Policy Administration module, the Never and Always options under Perform Validation are not available.
The available values for filtering composite CIs in inventory mode are sensitive to the view context.
The third-party source code is available in the following location: <HP Universal CMDB 9.10 Configuration Manager directory>\
3rd-party-sources.
The LW-SSO configuration file, cnclwssofmconf.xml, was previously located under <HP Universal CMDB 9.10 Configuration Manager directory>\servers\server-0\webapps\cnc\WEB-INF\classes. It is now located in the <HP Universal CMDB 9.10 Configuration Manager directory>\CONF folder. No action is necessary for this change (it is moved during the patch or release installation).
The Hardening chapter of the HP Universal CMDB 9.10 Configuration Manager Deployment Guide refers to the server.xml file. The correct location of the file is: <Configuration Manager Install Directory>\
servers\server-0\conf\server.xml.
You cannot upload files to the Server Administration module from within a Firefox browser. You must open Configuration Manager in an Internet Explorer browser.
In the Configuration Analysis module, when you begin entering an attribute value in the Configuration Model pane, suggested attribute values containing the entered text are displayed. Alternatively, press the Down arrow key to display all the suggested attribute values.

HP Universal CMDB 9.10 Configuration Manager Notes and Limitations

The UCMDB authorized state should only be updated through Configuration Manager. Configuration Manager does not support any changes to the authorized state made through the UCMDB user interface, JMX, or SDK. This may cause unexpected results and inaccurate data to be displayed.
If a view that is currently open in the State Management module is deleted from UCMDB, you are not blocked from continuing to work in the view. This may cause unpredictable behavior.
If any of the following issues occur:
After deleting a CI from actual state UCMDB, the label (name) of the CI is not available in Configuration Manager
CI is marked as changed after authorization
Composite CIs data displays the previous data while the CI details and Changed Attributes tab show the updated data
When running UCMDB upgraded to version 9.03:
Changes are not detected in actual and authorized states
CI details are not visible in State Management

The problem is connected to the UCMDB patches. Ensure that the UCMDB patches are installed. For details on installing the patches, see the Installation chapter in the HP Universal CMDB 9.10 Configuration Manager Deployment Guide.

Changes to the UCMDB class model are not detected in Configuration Manager until the Configuration Manager server is restarted.
Configuration Manager's generated perspectives should not be used. If you want to use a generated perspective, create a copy of the perspective, and use the copy instead.
Attribute changes within the volatility range defined in UCMDB are reported as CI changes in Configuration Manager.
Do not run the removeZombieCIsFromAuthorizedState JMX method. It is for development purposes only.
You cannot define a folding rule such that a top level component CI folds under a component CI of the same type.
When updating a configuration set in Configuration Manager, you must restart the server to activate it.
Automatic Authorization of a view does not run if a change was made to an unmanaged CI in the view. The CI must be authorized from the view where is it managed. Once that occurs, Automatic Authorization will be enabled for the first view again.
You can edit topology settings in Administration > Server Administration > Configuration Manager > Topology Presentation > topology-composition.settings. If you add a component to a composite in the xml and select
relationfromcompositetocomponent="false" (and not "true")
for the component, you may cause the following situation: If there is no component CI instance, then the composite CI may also not be included the Configuration Manager view even if it does exist.
