Configuration Manager Documentation

Configuration Manager includes the following documentation:

Readme. This document provides a list of version limitations and last-minute updates. You can also access the most updated readme file from the HP Software Support Web site.

HP Universal CMDB Configuration Manager Deployment Guide PDF. Available from the documentation directory in your installation media. Explains the hardware and software requirements needed to set up Configuration Manager, how to install or upgrade Configuration Manager, how to harden the system, and how to log in to the application.

Configuration Manager Online Help. Online Help is available from specific Configuration Manager modules and dialog boxes by the Help button, or by selecing Help on this page from the Help menu.

Online books can be viewed and printed using Adobe Reader, which can be downloaded from the Adobe Web site (www.adobe.com).

The first page of this document contains the following identifying information:

What's New

Improved Installation Procedure

HP Universal CMDB Configuration Manager now provides a simplified installation procedure for customers. You specify and configure the products that you want to install to (on Windows systems) using a streamlined wizard:

HP Universal CMDB
HP Universal CMDB Configuration Manager
HP Discovery and Dependency Mapping Advanced Edition

You can also use this installation procedure to connect to HP Operations Orchestration.

Advanced Configuration Analysis

The enhancements in the Configuration Model Analysis module help you to standardize your IT configuration. These enhancements enable you to:

provide visibility to the level of standardization that currently exists in your organization
focus on the configuration standards that exist in your organization
receive alerts whenever there are changes in configuration

Environment Segmentation Analysis

The Environment Segmentation Analysis module provides enhanced visibility to the level of standardization that currently exists in your organization. You can specify the detail level of the configuration standards that you wish to enforce, and accordingly groups of CIs with similar configurations (along with the standard that is suggested for them) are elicited for you.

Automatic Configuration Model Suggestion

The Configuration Modeling module can now automatically generate a suggested configuration standard for your organization, based on any of the following:

Arbitrary (that is, modeled at will completely by the user).
Created from a composite CI (whether or not that composite CI is actually a candidate for comparison with the model).
Imported from a baseline policy.
Based on a group of similar composite CIs. When creating a model, you can specify how closely you want the model to conform to the CIs or policy that you choose.

Partial Automatic Authorization

You can set up rules that reduce the manual effort required for maintaining CIs in the authorized state. This can now be done on the CI level as well as the view level.

Integration with HP Operations Orchestration

You can now integrate with HP Operations Orchestration (OO) to:

trigger OO flows from within Configuration Manager, such as for remediating policies
integrate processes with other tools, such as opening an RFC in Service Manager, or using third-party and internally developed applications.

Automation Risk Visualizer

The Automation Risk Visualizer capability enables you to preview the risk assessment of an automation that is about to be executed, and to decide whether you want to proceed with the automation excecution, or to first mitigate high risks, if they exist.

Read-level Permissions

You can now control who has access to which views (and their CIs) in Configuration Manager, by assigning View Read permission to specific users or roles.

Data Import/Export

You can now migrate Configuration Manager data from one instance to another (for example, from the staging instance to the production instance), using the JMX console.

Guidance Movies

You can now view movies that demonstrate real-life use cases of the following procedures:

Configuration Analysis and Modeling
Authorizing Changes

Installation

HP Universal CMDB Configuration Manager version 9.20 can be installed by itself or in conjunction with HP Universal CMDB version 9.03 with CUP 2. In addition, Configuration Manager can be installed with the following specialized configurations:

in a UCMDB High Availability environment
using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)

If you are not installing UCMDB at the same time that you install Configuration Manager, make sure that you download and install Cumulative Update Patch 2 (CUP 2) for UCMDB. You must do this before installing Configuration Manager.

Notes and Limitations

Working with CA SiteMinder is not supported with Configuration Manager version 9.20.
The Configuration Manager installation directory must not contain spaces in its name, and can use only English letters (a-z), digits (0-9) and the hyphen sign ('-').
The installation wizard is available in English only.
When you connect to HP Operations Orchestration using the Deployment Manager, version 7.51 is used, even though the wizard page lists version 7.5.
When you use flows from HP Operations Orchestration version 7.51 that you added into Configuration Manager, the following issues occur:
When you configure an automation, you cannot add a flow to the automation list if the flow includes the Single Value - Selection Lists or List of Values – Selection List parameter types.
When you attempt to execute an automation, when the parameter type is List of Values, the execution fails.
Generating segments in the Environment Segmentation Analysis module might fail, if the Analysis Scope contains too many component CIs that are similar (according to the similarity level that you set). To solve this problem, do one of the following:
Remove CIs from the scope
Raise the similarity level
(Linux only) The Post-Installation wizard fails if a non-default JMX port for UCMDB is used. If necessary, you can change this port in the upgrade.properties file (located in the utilities\Upgrade folder in the Configuration Manager installation directory.
(Windows only) As part of the upgrade procedure, folding and matching rules are automatically copied to UCMDB. You can see a list of rules that were copied in the UpgradeContentReport.html file, located in the <Configuration Manager installation directory>\utilities\Upgrade\current\ folder.
The Controlled Automations tab in Configuration Explorer does not display data for non-controlled automations.
Changes that occurred to CIs in UCMDB may not be reflected in Configuration Manager. If you see the following message in the UCMDB error log, this means that you have reached the limit of initialized patterns. The message is: The limit [3000] of maximum initialized patterns has been exceeded!!!!
In the section about configuring a reverse proxy in the HP Universal CMDB Configuration Manager Deployment Guide PDF, add the following lines to the example that appears:

ProxyPass /docs http://< CM_HOSTNAME >:<CM_HTTP_PORT>/docs
ProxyPassReverse /docs http:// <CM_HOSTNAME>:<CM_HTTP_PORT>/docs

In the System > Settings module (previously Server Administration module), under Topology Layout, only managed attributes can be entered for layout exceptions.
When a link has been authorized and the authorization operation was successful, in some rare cases, the link may be displayed as unauthorized and if you attempt to re-authorize the CI, the authorization preview dialog may display without any content.

Workaround: Use the JMX as follows:

To analyze the views and check the validity of the composite link history:
Access the JMX: OfflineAnalysisJMX
Invoke the operation: checkViolatingLinks.
To analyze all views and fix any incorrect composite links:
Access the JMX: OfflineAnalysisJMX
Invoke the operation: fixViolatingLinks.

HP Universal CMDB 9.10L Configuration Manager Notes and Limitations

In the Server Administration module, the user interface includes the following changes:
Under Offline Purging, there is now only one option for storing history: Keep History (days), which determines the number of days that history is stored for snapshots, policies, and statistics.
The Root Class setting under System Parameters is removed.
In the Server Administration module, under Topology Layout, only managed attributes can be entered for layout exceptions.
The Automatic Authorization option in the View Administration module is renamed Automatic State Transition.
In the Details pane of the Policy Administration module, the Never and Always options under Perform Validation are not available.
The available values for filtering composite CIs in inventory mode are sensitive to the view context.
The third-party source code is available in the following location: <HP Universal CMDB 9.10 Configuration Manager directory>\
3rd-party-sources.
The LW-SSO configuration file, cnclwssofmconf.xml, was previously located under <HP Universal CMDB 9.10 Configuration Manager directory>\servers\server-0\webapps\cnc\WEB-INF\classes. It is now located in the <HP Universal CMDB 9.10 Configuration Manager directory>\CONF folder. No action is necessary for this change (it is moved during the patch or release installation).
The Hardening chapter of the HP Universal CMDB 9.10 Configuration Manager Deployment Guide refers to the server.xml file. The correct location of the file is: <Configuration Manager Install Directory>\
servers\server-0\conf\server.xml.
You cannot upload files to the Server Administration module from within a Firefox browser. You must open Configuration Manager in an Internet Explorer browser.
In the Configuration Analysis module, when you begin entering an attribute value in the Configuration Model pane, suggested attribute values containing the entered text are displayed. Alternatively, press the Down arrow key to display all the suggested attribute values.
When a link has been authorized and the authorization operation was successful, in some rare cases, the link may be displayed as unauthorized and if you attempt to re-authorize the CI, the authorization preview dialog may display without any content.

Workaround: Use the JMX as follows:

HP Universal CMDB 9.10 Configuration Manager Notes and Limitations

The UCMDB authorized state should only be updated through Configuration Manager. Configuration Manager does not support any changes to the authorized state made through the UCMDB user interface, JMX, or SDK. This may cause unexpected results and inaccurate data to be displayed.
If a view that is currently open in the State Management module is deleted from UCMDB, you are not blocked from continuing to work in the view. This may cause unpredictable behavior.
If any of the following issues occur:
After deleting a CI from actual state UCMDB, the label (name) of the CI is not available in Configuration Manager
CI is marked as changed after authorization
Composite CIs data displays the previous data while the CI details and Changed Attributes tab show the updated data
When running UCMDB upgraded to version 9.03:
Changes are not detected in actual and authorized states
CI details are not visible in State Management

The problem is connected to the UCMDB patches. Ensure that the UCMDB patches are installed. For details on installing the patches, see the Installation chapter in the HP Universal CMDB 9.10 Configuration Manager Deployment Guide.

Changes to the UCMDB class model are not detected in Configuration Manager until the Configuration Manager server is restarted.
Configuration Manager's generated perspectives should not be used. If you want to use a generated perspective, create a copy of the perspective, and use the copy instead.
Attribute changes within the volatility range defined in UCMDB are reported as CI changes in Configuration Manager.
Do not run the removeZombieCIsFromAuthorizedState JMX method. It is for development purposes only.
You cannot define a folding rule such that a top level component CI folds under a component CI of the same type.
When updating a configuration set in Configuration Manager, you must restart the server to activate it.
Automatic Authorization of a view does not run if a change was made to an unmanaged CI in the view. The CI must be authorized from the view where is it managed. Once that occurs, Automatic Authorization will be enabled for the first view again.
You can edit topology settings in Administration > Server Administration > Configuration Manager > Topology Presentation > topology-composition.settings. If you add a component to a composite in the xml and select
relationfromcompositetocomponent="false" (and not "true")
for the component, you may cause the following situation: If there is no component CI instance, then the composite CI may also not be included the Configuration Manager view even if it does exist.
