HP Service Test - Readme
Software version: 11.20 / August 2011
This file provides information about HP Service Test 11.20.
What's New in HP Service Test
Service Test 11.20
Service Test version 11.20 provides improved stability and the following feature enhancements:
ALM/QC Data Awareness
ALM/QC Data Awareness is now supported. You can store Excel data resource files in ALM/QC, enabling you to use the same data for multiple tests, or different data for each test run.
Activity Sharing
You can now reuse activities in multiple tests. Shared activities can be stored in ALM/QC as Test Resources, or on the file system.
Asynchronous Support
You can use Service Test 11.20 to test asynchronous systems. Activities are provided to listen for HTTP requests and Web service requests from a server. These requests can be verified with checkpoints, and you can configure Service Test to send a response back to the server. Web Service Addressing is also supported.
.NET Importer
You can now import .NET assemblies into Service Test's Toolbox and use them in your test. Any types that were defined in the assembly can be used in Custom Code activities, and objects of these types can be passed from step to step.
HP Service Virtualization Integration
Service Test 11.20 integrates with HP Service Virtualization 1.00. You can define which services will be virtualized, and select a virtualization profile as part of your tests.
IBM WebSphere MQ Support
Service Test 11.20 provides new activities to allow you to interact directly with IBM MQ queues. You can place messages on an MQ queue, get messages from a queue, and browse a queue. Service Test also allows you to work with MQ topics, using subscriptions and publishing.
Previous Versions
Service Test version 11.20 also includes the feature enhancements introduced in previous versions.
Service Test 11.10 Enhancements
Database Support
Database support lets you use a database as a data source for your tests, in addition to the existing Excel, XML, and local table data sources. A variety of database activities are available to use within the flow of the test.
Web Service Updates
The update service feature allows you to reimport a Web Service that has changed, from its original source or from another location. The Update Step Wizard helps you map steps and properties that Service Test could not resolve automatically.
Additional Activities
Service Test 11.10 provides additional built-in activities under the following categories: FTP, Math, Date/Time, XML, and Database.
Business Process Testing
You can use Service Test 11.10 to create business components, which can be used as part of ALM/QC's Business Process Testing.
Service Test 11.00 Enhancements
Visual Test Designer
The user interface has a canvas for creating a visual representation of the steps in a test. You can create tests by dragging activities from a toolbox, and configuring their properties.
Multiple Technologies
Service Test provides support for a variety of activities such as Web Services, REST, .NET, Java, and more.
Flexible Data Handling
Data handling capabilities allow you to link test parameters to a variety of data sources, or store data locally with the test.
Extensibility
You can customize the behavior of existing activities using event handlers. For greater control over events, you can insert code activities at any point within a test. A built-in API allows the development of new activities that can seamlessly integrate with Service Test.
JMS
Service Test supports Web Service messages over JMS message queues and topics.
HP Unified Functional Testing
The UFT (Unified Functional Testing) package includes HP Service Test and HP QuickTest Professional. This package enables you to validate both the GUI and headless elements in your application, enabling comprehensive testing of these complex business processes.
ALM/QC Integration
ALM/QC (Application Lifecycle Management/Quality Center) integration allows you to save and open tests through the ALM/QC Test Plan module and execute them from the Test Lab module. Integration with Service Test Management allows you to access Web services stored on ALM/QC.
Installation and Configuration Information
Specific software needs to be installed before you can install HP Service Test. When you run the installation wizard, if the prerequisite software is not already installed on your computer, the wizard detects which software is missing and provides the option to install it.
The following prerequisite software needs to be installed:
- .NET Framework 4
- Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.8 SP1 (or later)
- Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1
- Microsoft Core XML Services (MSXML) 6.0
- Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x86)
- Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x86)
- Web Services Enhancements (WSE) 2.0 SP3 for Microsoft .NET Redistributable Runtime MSI
- Web Services Enhancements (WSE) 3.0 for Microsoft .NET Redistributable Runtime MSI
System Requirements
To successfully install and run Service Test, your computer must meet the following minimum system requirements:
Browser
For a complete list of supported operating systems and integrations, see the HP Service Test Product Availability Matrix, hpst_pam.pdf, in the product's help folder.
Pre-Installation Notes and Limitations
- To run the Service Test installation, you must have full local administrative rights on the designated machine.
- QuickTest Professional 11.00 is required for incorporating UFT (Unified Functional Testing) steps into a test.
- Before installing Service Test, be sure to uninstall any previous versions.
- If Service Test Runtime Component is installed and you try to uninstall or modify the installation, you will be required to access the installation program from the location where you originally ran it (for example, the installation DVD).
- If you run the Service Test installation from the command line (silent mode), run the following two files manually to complete the installation: run_after_finish batch and Report Viewer MSI.
- To store and retrieve tests in HP ALM/QC, the project to which you connect must have the Service Test Management extension enabled.
Limitations
- You cannot view previous versions or perform checkout/checkin of business components in ALM/QC.
- The autocompletion drop down in the user event code, does not reflect changes on the canvas until you perform a Save operation.
- Service Test 11.20 does not support NTLM authentication.
- The Batch Upgrader tool may not successfully upgrade tests stored in ALM/QC 11.00 when working on Windows 2003.
- When opening many tests in the same solution using one or more of the same Web services, Service Test may develop a memory leak.
Workaround: Move the Web service to the file system or ALM/QC repository: Import a Web service, and select Move to > File System Activities or ALM/QC Activities from the right click menu.- When performing a copy/paste of a step with a property linked to a data source, the link to the data source will not be copied. This limitation also applies to composite steps, such as Loop, where its internal steps have links to data sources.
- In Web Service calls, if you add an element to an Any type array and rename it, the Link to Source button is not immediately available.
Workaround: Reselect the step in the canvas and then access the Link to Source button.- If you encounter an exception or a missing file when trying to run JMS steps, copy msvcr71.dll from the jre\bin folder (by default C:\Program Files\HP\HP Service Test\jre\bin), to the Service Test bin folder (by default C:\Program Files\HP\HP Service Test\bin).
- When linking an array element to data, the ancestors of the property are not included in the link.
Workaround: Manually include the parent node by selecting the green triangle adjacent to it, before linking to the element.- Tests stored in Quality Center 10.00 (Patch 25) are unable to run business component tests on the Windows 7, 32-bit operating system.
