HP OpenView is now HP Operations Manager, OVO for Windows is HPOM for Windows, and HP OpenView Smart Plug-ins are now HP Operations Smart Plug-ins.
NOTE: Due to these product name changes there may be situations where the product name in the documentation temporarily differs from the name you see on the software, or where the latest Smart Plug-in online help product names conflict with the earlier OVO for Windows product name.
The new features added in this release are as follows:
Multilingual User Interface allows the user interface language of the operating system to be changed to one of the supported languages, according to the preferences of individual users.
The OS SPI instrumentation files support the HTTPS agent on the managed nodes for HP Operations Manager for Windows.
Support for running policies and applications under alternative, non-root user on HTTPS agents.
HP NNM detects events like the state of the link and raises trap events for issues found. NNM Adapter intercepts these trap events and sends messages to the HP Operations message browser. The Unix OS SPI is enhanced to map the severity of these messages to the service map.
You can view graphically represented data for errors reported. The graphs from HP Performance Manager are integrated with the HP Operations Smart Plug-in for Unix OS SPI.
In the latest version of HP Performance Agent (4.7 or newer), the configfile deploys the alarmdef file. Previous version of the alarmwrite policy created the alarmdef file . When you re-deploy the alarmdef configfile policy, the Unix OS SPI will check if the alarmdef_integration file is present on the node. If this file is present, the corresponding entry for osspi_alarmdef is written into alarmdef_integration instead of overwriting the osspi_alarmdef itself. Therefore any modifications made to the alarmdef file, prior to re-deployment will not get overwritten. The versions of the Unix OS SPI, earlier than version 4.10 will not work with HP Performance Agent 4.7.
Service Management Facility (SMF) is a new process monitoring technology provided by Solaris 10. The Unix OSSPI has been enhanced to discover and monitor processes registered with SMF. The Unix OS SPI no longer monitors these processes directly. It monitors them through SMF. Therefore you do not need to configure them as a part of the procmon.cfg file.
The discovery policy is designed to automatically disable the noclobber flag, before running the discovery scripts. Disabling noclobber allows an already existing configuration file to be overwritten.
The policies are designed to automatically disable the noglob flag before running their script. Disabling the flag ensures that the file name generation is enabled as required.
The policies are designed to automatically disable the nounset flag before running their script. Disabling the flag ensures that unset parameters are not treated as errors when substituting.
The policies are designed to automatically disable the errexit flag before running their script. The scripts handle error conditions within them. Disabling the flag ensures that an unexpected exit does not take place while running the scripts.

OSSPI-SOL-syslog | Added a new condition from policy OSSPI-SOL-Dmesg (obsolete). |
Version verify – Helps track the different versions of instrumentation files, that are modified due to various hot fixes and patches applied on the managed node. The Version Verify tool helps check for missing configuration files on a managed node.

Installation requirements, as well as instructions for installing the OSSPI are documented in the following guides:
The OSSPI versions supported for upgrade or migration are as follows:
During a side-by-side migration or an in-place upgrade:
The service instances discovered by the OSSPI are removed from the management server during a side-by-side migration or an in-place upgrade. After the service discovery process runs on the UNIX and Linux managed nodes, the new service instances are created automatically based on the new OSSPI service model.
If autodeployment is disabled on the management server, you must deploy the following on existing UNIX and Linux managed nodes after the migration or upgrade is complete. This updates the service model of the managed nodes:
To enable or disable autodeployment, set the following registry value to 0 or 1 respectively.
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Hewlett-Packard\OVEnterprise\Management Server\AutoDeployment\Disable

PROBLEM: | Except for the OSSPI-SunClusterDiscovery autodiscovery policy, the other Sun Cluster policies are not automatically deployed. |
FIX: | Manually deploy the policies. |
PROBLEM: | If you remove the NAFO group from the Sun Cluster setup and then re-create it, alerts from the NAFO group are not received. |
FIX: | Re-run discovery to start receiving alerts from the NAFO group. |
PROBLEM: | The file procmon.cfg has an entry sendmail. In case of exact pattern matching, whenever the process list include sendmail: as a process, the pattern matching will fail. |
FIX: | Create the following entry in procmon_local.cfg:[mail] |
PROBLEM: | After installation, UNIX OS SPI tries to delete “SPI for UnixOS” tool group from the tools. If the “SPI for UnixOS” tools is not present then it logs “ERROR: OSSPI Tools removal failed: 1” error message. |
FIX: | Ignore this error message as it does not effect the functionality of the SPI. |
There are no errors in the UNIX OSSPI documentation currently.
