Installation requirements, as well as instructions for installing HP SE SPI, are documented in the Installation Guide for Installation and Reference Guide for HP Operations Smart Plug-in for HP Storage Essentials provided in Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) format. The document file is included on the product's CD/DVD media as:

Known Problems, Limitations, and Workarounds

Get HP SIM Credentials tool does not work in OVOW Remote Console.

Symptom: Get HP SIM Credentials tool does not work in OVOW Remote Console.

Action: Run the tool from OVOW Console instead of Remote Console.

The tools Version Verify and Self-Healing Info tools fail on agent running as a non-root user.

Symptom: When the HPOM Agent is migrated from root user to non-root user, the Version Verify and Self-Healing Info tools fail with the following error:

                 Cannot open collector output file /tmp/SPI_SE/SPI_SE.xml for writing

Action: If the HPOM Agent is migrated from root user to non-root user, delete or rename the HP SE SPI files or directories from /tmp on the node which were created by root user.

Service discovery fails after SPI upgrade

Symptom: Service discovery fails after SPI upgrade.

Action: Repeat the following steps on managed nodes where service discovery is failing.

Documentation Errata

The Upgrade steps given with the SPI Guide and online help are incomplete. Given below are the actual upgrade steps that need to be followed.
To upgrade to the latest version of HP Storage Essentials SPI, complete the following steps:

  1. Ensure you have read the hardware and software requirements in Prerequisites section.
  2. If you want to preserve any policy customization that you have made in the previous version, you must take a backup to save the complete and current HP Storage Essentials SPI policies.
  3. Stop HP Storage Essentials SPI Event Listener using the Stop Event Listener tool.
  4. Remove node from the node group using the ‘De-assign AppStorManager node from the node group’ tool. Use the appropriate de-assign tool for CIM extensions also.
  5. Uninstall older versions of the modified HP Storage Essentials policies from existing managed nodes
    1. In the console tree, select Policy management -> Policy groups -> HP Storage Essentials.
    2. Right-click and select All tasks -> Uninstall from.
    3. Select the appropriate node group or nodes. Select OK.
  6. Install the HP Storage Essentials SPI from the DVD by following the steps mentioned in the Installing HP Storage Essentials SPI section.
  7. Ensure that Auto-deployment registry variable Disable is set to False.
  8. Assign all the AppStorManager and CIM extension nodes that were de-assigned in step 4 back to the respective node group.
  9. Run ‘Get HP SIM Credentials’ tool and ‘Start Event Listener’ tool.
