Installation Notes

Installation instructions for installing Microsoft Virtual Server SPI, are documented in the HP Operations Smart Plug-ins DVD Installation and Upgrade Guide for Windows provided in Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) format. The document file is included on the HP Operations Smart Plug-ins for HP Operations Manager for Windows DVD, as:

Software and Hardware Requirements

Before installing the Microsoft Virtual Server SPI, make sure that your system meets the minimum requirements listed below. For the management server requirements, refer to the HP Operations Manager for Windows 8.00 requirements.

Installing Microsoft Virtual Server SPI Reporter on a Microsoft Cluster with HP Reporter 3.60 or 3.70 and no HP Operations Manager Installation

You must install the Microsoft Virtual Server SPI Reporter only on the cluster node where the HP Reporter 3.60 or 3.70 resource group is active.

To uninstall Microsoft Virtual Server SPI Reporter, you must make sure that you uninstall Microsoft Virtual Server SPI Reporter from the same cluster node on which you installed it. In addition, you must make sure that the HP Reporter 3.60 or 3.70 resource group is active on the cluster node during uninstallation.

Upgrading Microsoft Virtual Server SPI

The following Microsoft Virtual Server SPI version can be upgraded or migrated:

b.01.00, 1.10

No special actions are required for upgrading Microsoft Virtual Server SPI. During the installation using the HP Operations Smart Plug-ins for HP Operations Manager for Windows DVD, the previous SPI version is detected and the installation proceeds as expected.

Known Problems, Limitations, and Workarounds

Installation of HP MSVS2005 Host Agents might fail

The installation of HP MSVS2005 Host Agents application might fail due to insufficient permissions to install the application when you run the following tools or policy:

You must run these tools or policy as a user with permissions to install or uninstall applications.

To change the user for a tool:

  1. From the HPOM console, right-click the Host Agent Install or Host Agent Uninstall tool and select Properties. The Tool Properties dialog box opens.
  2. Select the Target tab from the Tool Properties dialog box.
  3. Clear the Run as Agent User check box. The User Name text box is enabled.
  4. Type the <user name> in the User Name text box. The Password text box is enabled.
  5. Type the <password> in the Password text box. The Verify Password text box is enabled.
  6. Type the <password> for confirmation in the Verify Password text box.
  7. Click OK. This completes the procedure to change the user for a tool.

To change the user for a policy:

  1. From the HPOM console, double-click the MSVSSPI-HP Host Agent Install policy. The MSVSSPI-HP Host Agent Install dialog box opens.
  2. Select the Task tab.
  3. Select the As user check box. The As user text box is enabled.
  4. Type the <user name> in the As user text box.
  5. Select the Specify password check box. The Specify password text box is enabled.
  6. Type the <password> in the Specify password text box.
  7. Click Save and Close.
  8. From the HPOM console, right-click MSVSSPI-HP Host Agent Install policy and select All Tasks > Deploy on.... The Deploy policies on... dialog box opens.
  9. Select the required host nodes from the dialog box and click OK. This completes the procedure to change the user for a policy.

Documentation Errata

There are no known errors in the Microsoft Virtual Server SPI documentation.

Verified Enviroment

Microsoft Virtual Server SPI version 1.30 supports only HP Operations Manager for Windows 7.50 and 8.00. Earlier versions of HP Operations Manager for Windows are not supported.
