What's New in This Release?

HP Performance Manager contains new features, feature enhancements, and other changes.

New Features

HP Performance Manager contains these new features:

• Real-time Graphs: HP Performance Manager 9.00 is now enhanced with a new feature to draw real-time graphs from Real-Time Measurement (RTM) datasource.

  NOTE: HP recommends configuring the minimum data collection interval in Real-Time Metric Access component (in the perfd.ini file on the HP Operations agent node) to not less than 5 seconds.

• Diagnostic View: HP Performance Manager 9.00 provides two types of views - Standard View and Diagnostic View.
  • The Diagnostic View provides highly interactive user interface to draw graphs and monitor real-time and near real-time performance data.
  • The Diagnostic View provides a drill-down option that enables you to analyze, compare metric data, and view granular data based on the selected metric class. It also enables you to drill down to multiple levels of the selected metric class to identify bottleneck metrics.
  • With HP Performance Manager 9.00, you can switch between real-time and near-real time performance data.
  • Standard View of Performance Manager continues to support designing and drawing graphs for historical performance data.
  • The Diagnostic View provides following additional features:
    • Save State option to save the state of the user interface.
    • Navigate option to select and view data for any time frame in the agent.
    • Date Range Panel option to view better correlation of metrics and troubleshoot performance issues.
• Support for Microsoft Active Directory Server: HP Performance Manager 9.00 supports Microsoft Active Directory Server 2003 and 2008 for authentication. For more information, see HP Performance Manager Administrator Guide.

  NOTE: If the Performance Manager is installed on the same system as HP Operations Manager (HPOM) and is also configured to use Microsoft Active Directory for authentication, you cannot launch the graphs from the HPOM console. However, you can import the nodelist from HPOM to Performance Manager.

• Integration with HP SiteScope: HP Performance Manager 9.00 is now integrated with HP SiteScope 11.0.
  • HP SiteScope is an agentless monitoring solution designed to ensure the availability and performance of the system it monitors. With SiteScope, you gain the real-time information you need to verify infrastructure operations, stay apprised of problems and solve bottlenecks before they become critical.
  • You can import nodes in Performance Manager from HP SiteScope Server. This option is enabled only if Performance Manager is configured to import nodes from HP SiteScope Server. For more information, see HP Performance Manager Administrator Guide.
• RESTful Web Services Replaces HP Interconnect Integration: Integration with HP Interconnect is not supported in HP Performance Manager 9.00. Instead HP Performance Manager provides RESTful web services to retrieve data in XML format.
  

 

Enhancements

HP Performance Manager contains these enhancements:

• Improved performance of node list.
• Enhanced Node List Search: HP Performance Manager 9.00 enables you to perform an improved node list search. For more information, see HP Performance Manager Dyamic Help.
• Support for vMA version 4.0: HP Performance Manager is now enhanced to draw graphs for vMA (vSphere Management Assistant) nodes. However, you must install HP Performance Agent, version 5.00 on the vMA system.
• Support for RHEL 5.4: HP Performance Manager 9.00 supports Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.4.
• Enhanced URL-based Graph Launch: With HP Performance Manager 9.00, you can draw the graphs by passing URL parameters. For more information, see HP Performance Manager Administrator Guide.
• Restructured Graph Templates: In this release, the out-of-the-box Performance graphs available with HP Performance Manager are restructured under new family and categories. For more information on the new categories, see HP Performance Manager Tutorials. To retain the earlier layout of the out-of-the-box performance graphs in Performance Manager user interface, see HP Performance Manager Administrator Guide.

  Important Note: If you are using ovpmbatch commands or URL based parameters to launch out-of-the-box graphs, you have to modify your scripts or URLs to use the new graph template. For more information, see HP Performance Manager Administrator Guide.

• Enhanced User Experience while Saving Graphs: While saving graphs, the Save dialog box that appears provides a combo box with drop-down list for Family, Category, and Name options so that you can choose from the existing Family name, Category name, and Graph name while saving a graph. You can either type a new name or choose from the existing names while editing or designing a new graph.
• Enhanced Design Wizard: When designing graphs in the design wizard:
  • Name of the graph is displayed in the title while editing a graph
  • 'New Graph' is displayed in the title while designing a new graph
  • Metric Label is shown by default in design wizard
• Support for Firefox 3.6 Browser: HP Performance Manager 9.00 supports Firefox 3.6 on Microsoft Windows operating system.
• Display of Node Groups in Admin User Interface: In the Manage Nodes option of the Admin menu, nodes belonging to HP Operations Manager (HPOM), HP Reporter, and HP SiteScope are not displayed. Only the respective node groups are visible. However, Performance Manager nodes and node groups are visible.
• Configurable Drill-down Metrics: HP Performance Manager 9.00 enables you to add or change the pre-defined metrics for each metric class for drill-down of data source. For more information, see HP Performance Manager Administrator Guide.
• Configurable Number of Data Points in Diagnostic View: With HP Performance Manager 9.00, you can configure the maximum number of data points in the graphs drawn in the Diagnostic View.
• Enhanced HP Performance Manager User Interface: HP Performance Manager 9.00 user interface provides following additional features in Diagnostic View.
  • Export option to export the real-time and near real-time graph data from the graph and table graphs
  • Ability to drag and drop the metrics
  • Draw option to relaunch the default graph
  • Remove All option to remove all datasources from the Data Sources pane in the Selection Panel
  • Close All Graphs option to close all open graphs in the Graphs Panel
  • Tooltips option to enable/disable mouse hover on all open graphs
  • Tooltip for metrics that are not completely visible appears in the Selection Panel
  • Only graphable metrics are listed in the Metrics panel in the Selection Panel
  • Drill down option to view more detailed data
  • URL based launch that displays only the graph window
  • Option to save the changes made to the drill down table
• Tip of the day
• Node list imported from HP Operations Manager for Windows is automatically sorted
• Configurable import of Reporter Nodelist

Changes

HP Performance Manager contains these changes:

• It does not supply localized software and documentation in Korean language.
• It does not provide localized documentation in Simplified Chinese language.
• No Man pages

QCCR1A94919: Design user interface stops responding if one of the systems is unreachable while designing a multi-source graph.

QCCR1A94139: Decimal values unavailable when drawing data graphs from Reporter Database using Repsys Data source.

QCCR1A94109: HP Performance Manager incorrectly checks for multi-instance metrics with HP Performance Agent -DBSPI integration.

QCCR1A93416: Error while designing multi-source graph.

QCCR1A93234: Not able to draw any other type of graph after drawing CSV graph after applying 08.20.011 hotfix.

QCCR1A92901: HP Performance Manager 8.20.010: possible security issue with node search feature.

QCCR1A91861: Graphs disappear on editing complex graphs migrated from Performance Manager 6.0 to 8.10 using the Performance Manager 8.x user interface.

QCCR1A91569: Node search does not work when multi-level node group is used.

QCCR1A91166: HP Performance Manager 8.20 CSV/TSV graph in external windows - Authentication Fails.

QCCR1A90646: When a user deletes a child group, then the user cannot choose a node under the main group.

QCCR1A90647: When the node and child group have same name in the main group and when the user deletes the node, child group gets deleted.

QCCR1A90401: Selecting a node in the Manage Node page selects first node with same node name in the tree.

QCCR1A90009:  Graph and nodes highlight are not working on Mozilla Firefox.

QCCR1A89699: Generic Parameters are not working when substituted for graph template FILTER parameter.

QCCR1A89700: Users of different customers are able to view and edit graphs of unassigned nodes.

QCCR1A89475: HP Performance Manager Graphing issue with different date format.

QCCR1A89262: Issue with SORTBY parameters in ovpmbatch.

QCCR1A89264: "Select a graph" console pane shows "loading." but graph does not appear.

QCCR1A60958: Too many digits after decimal point when metric value is constant.

QCCR1A60125: Authentication error in ovpmbatch when user credentials are passed along with SENDURLREQUEST parameter.

QCCR1A59756: MINY and MAXY parameters are not honored for category bar graph type.

QCCR1A59175: Time stamps overrun each other and are unreadable while drawing category bar graphs.

QCCR1A39525/QCCR1A59001: ovpmbatch does not honor REFRESH_RATE and suffers from performance issues.

QCCR1A41076: Error message should include system name when there is no data found for the chosen duration.

QCCR1A41069: Provide Command Line Interface to create and replicate customer and user accounts on Performance Manager servers.

QCCR1A39941: OVPMReportTemplate.htm template should be configurable.

QCCR1A39844: Performance Manager 6.00 complex graph templates with single metric not working in Performance Manager 8.x.

QCCR1A39523: Passing PARAMETER keyword in URL request does not override the parameter value in graph template.

QCCR1A39522: HP Performance Manager 8.10 CSV graph shows metrics list data for one agent only even when two or more agents are specified.

QCCR1A39513: Saved non-image graphs not working with non-default daterange values.

QCCR1A39505: HP Performance Manager 8.10 displays invalid image subtitle if day is specified with auto range.

QCCR1A39493: HP Performance Manager 6.x graph templates do not preserve date range values when migrated to Performance Manager 8.x.

QCCR1A39492: HP Performance Manager 6.x complex graph templates does not work as expected when migrated to Performance Manager 8.x.

QCCR1A39477: The 'Drill Down to Process Table' option does not work in Japanese locale.

QCCR1A39475: Graphs in Performance Manager 8.10 show wrong dates.

QCCR1A39466: Performance Manager responds slow for URL launch graph if number of nodegroups exist.

QCCR1A39461: Performance Manager displays an error while loading node-list from Operations Manager 8.00.

QCCR1A39448: ovpmbatch does not automatically exit when outputdir option is specified and has to be manually interrupted.

QCCR1A39443: Garbled characters found during print preview.

QCCR1A39442: Translated strings are not displayed when running Performance Manager scripts.

QCCR1A39435: Multiple Graphs option does not work when drawing gaphs from saved graph templates.

QCCR1A39427: Right most data points' values on an image graph are not visible on mouse hover.

QCCR1A39416: Filters are not working properly when metrics exceed default number per graph.

QCCR1A39412: A user with display only privileges is able to edit the drawn graphs.

QCCR1A39372: Consecutively drawing the same graph with non-default dates shifts the dates forward.

Known Problems, Limitations, and Workarounds

This release contains certain unresolved problems, some limitations, and there are workaround to help solve certain problems.

• Problems
  • QCCR1A111431: Cannot open graphs from HP Operations Manager 9.00 64-bit user interface.
    Workaround: HP Performance Manager 9.00 requires 'Adobe Flash Player' to be installed in the browser. Download and install the 64-bit flash player from the website: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ or access performance graphs using the Operations Manager Web console.
  • QCCR1A39284: The " Next" Button in Data source Selection page does not work as expected.
    Description: In the design wizard, after selecting data source, clicking the 'Next' button to navigate to the next screen does not work unless the mouse cursor is moved away from the button once.
    Workaround: Move the mouse cursor away from the 'Next' button once and click the 'Next' button again.
  • QCCR1A39338: Editing a saved system comparison graph does not allow the user to change the metric.
    Description: When you edit a system comparison graph from the design wizard, you cannot change the metric which appears selected.
    Workaround: From the Metric Selection screen, remove a metric and add another metric which you want to use for system comparison.
  • QCCR1A59473: Required disk space reported by the Performance Manager installer is wrong.
    Description: During the process of installation, the installer displays the disk space requirements. But the value displayed by the installer is incorrect and much lesser than the actual disk space required. If the actual disk space on the system is less than the required amount specified here, the installation fails.
    Workaround: See the "Hardware Requirements" section in the HP Performance Manager Install, Upgrade and Migrate Guide for the actual disk space values required.
  • QCCR1A88927: HP Performance Agent returns wrong End Date for proxy logfiles kept under /var/opt/perf/datafiles.
    Description: When proxy log files or extracted log files are used as data source, the graphs display incorrect values for 'end date'.
    Workaround: Do not save the proxied log file in the location /var/opt/perf/datafiles. The graph displays correct values when you save the log file in any location other than /var/opt/perf/datafiles.
  • QCCR1A112522: Performance Manager fails to open URL when username parameter is passed in Chinese.
    Description: Launching URL-based graphs by passing user name parameter in Chinese locale fails on Performance Manager 9.00.
    Workaround: The URL parameters should be encoded to UTF8 format if it includes non-ASCII characters.
  • QCCR1A92902: User unable to add multiple sub node groups if one of the sub groups already exists.
    Description: User unable to add sub node groups with similar name under different groups. "An error message appears stating that the node group already exists. Choose a different name".
    Workaround: You have to select refresh after adding a sub node group. The newly added sub node group is displayed.
  • QCCR1A113730: OvAutoDiscovery Server does not start up after upgrading to OvJREB-01.06.006 on the HP Operations Manager for Windows server
    Description: OvAutoDiscovery Server does not start up on installing HP Performance Manager 9.00 on HP Operations Manager for Windows 8.10 due to heap size mentioned in the registry key.
    Workaround: To resolve this issue on an HPOM for Windows 8.16 or 8.10 system with latest server patch level (OMW_00070) except OMW_00071, modify the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\OvAutoDiscovery Server\JavaOptions in such a way that the value "Options" is now set as "-Xms16m -Xrs". On an HPOM for Windows 8.16 or 8.10 system with server patch OMW_00071, no action needs to be taken as this value is already set.
  • QCCR1A115349: When HP Performance Manager and HP Reporter are installed on the same system, HP Performance Manager does not automatically detect HP Reporter configuration.
    Description: The TYPE and PORT parameters are not correctly updated in the OVPMconfig.ini.
    Workaround: The following parameters need to be updated manually in the OVPMconfig.ini: Reporter database type [Example: TYPE= oracle or TYPE= sqlserver], Reporter Database port number [Example: PORT=1433]. For more information, see Integrating with HP Reporter section in the HP Performance Manager Administrator Guide.
  • In the Diagnostic View, the Selection Panel does not list the newer instances occurring for a connected Real-time datasource.
    Workaround: You have to reconnect to the Real-time datasource to view the newly available instances.
    
• Limitations
  • QCCR1A114381: Using the Attach Groups option when you search for a user and if the user is not found, the same alert message appears twice.
  • QCCR1A113151: Performance Manager home page is not displayed if the user does not enter the action details in the URL launch.
  • QCCR1A111952: In graphs panel, when user selects date range panel, "Last" option of date range panel should not be blank.
  • QCCR1A111961: In date range panel, unable to select "weeks in month" in range option when "month" is selected in last option.
  • QCCR1A111325: Truncation problem in 'transaction details' page.
  • QCCR1A107938: Preview option should not be disabled when we redraw the graph using View menu and refresh the Performance Manager page.
    Description: Preview option is disabled when a graph designed using the Graph menu is redrawn using the View menu, after refreshing the home page through the Nodes menu.
  • QCCR1A96093: When the user clicks on the color button in table highlights, the pop-up covers the metric drop down and other text fields.
  • QCCR1A96102: When the user enters special characters in the value field, all the rows in the drilldown window that does not match the entered value are highlighted.
  • QCCR1A61346: AutoPass library prints to stdout.
    Description: While verifying the license, the message "IPv6 Loopback address Found" appears multiple time on the CLI. The number of times the message appears is many as the number of IP locked licenses present in license file. This happens only, if licenses other than the Instant-On, are installed and are not locked to wildcarded IP (*.*.*.*)
  • QCCR1A39083: Multiple error messages appear when Performance Manager fails to retrieve HP Operations Manager node list.
    Description: Multiple error messages appear in the Performance Manager user interface when Performance Manager fails to retrieve the node list from Operations Manager for Windows 8.00.
  • QCCR1A109729 : Not displaying the default graph window when the Agentless datasource does not have data.
    Description: When the user connects to an Agentless datasource that does not have data, default graph window is not displayed.
  • QCCR1A103639: Out-of-Box graph names are displayed vertically in Japanese and Chinese locale.
