HP Operations Manager Dependency Mapping Automation enables IT Operations teams to align their activities more fully with the business services that the IT infrastructure supports. By providing automated dependency mapping and configuration consistency in environments with multiple Operations Manager servers, HPOM DMA optimizes the ability of IT organizations to support their businesses and enables enhanced productivity and efficiency within the Operations teams.
New features in the 8.10 release include:
The My Company (dmaMyCompany
) synchronization package helps you to quickly and easily arrange your CIs in Service
Navigator to, for example, reflect the geographical organization of your company.
You can configure which separators the Smart Message Mapper uses to extract keywords and hostnames from an incoming message. You can also specify whether case sensitivity is required when matching CI attributes against fields in a message ID.
You can now change the order of MSI processes. If, for example, an MSI process requires the original service IDs, you can assign a later order number to the Smart Message Mapping process.
You can simulate and verify the behavior of the Smart Message Mapper without sending an OpC message. This helps you to evaluate how a message would be mapped and responds with the selected service, where possible, without actually sending a message or updating any services in Service Navigator.
You can send messages to virtual services representing a service, such as a mail service provided by an organization.
You can synchronize End User Management (EUM) views from BAC into HPOM.
HPOM DMA can automatically create STDs to suit non-matching CIs as they are imported into HPOM.
User Profile Assignment allows you to map a service to an HPOM user profile or role. After synchronization, the service is assigned to all operators that are included in the specified HPOM user profile or role.
Scripting allows you to perform additional processing and customization during to the synchronization process, before and after the upload of nodes and services to HPOM. One pre-upload and one post-upload script can be associated with each synchronization package.
You have already defined services directly in HPOM, and want to incorporate the data imported from the UCMDB with the data present in Service Navigator. You can now map the required UCMDB data into Services in HPOM in one of two ways:

HP Operations Manager Dependency Mapping Automation is supported with HP Operations Manager for UNIX 8.00 with patch level 8.29 and higher versions of HP Operations Manager.
HPOM DMA requires UCMDB or BAC version 7.00 or 7.50.

Installation requirements, as well as instructions for installing HP Operations Manager Dependency Mapping Automation, are documented in the Installation Guide for HP Operations Manager Dependency Mapping Automation provided in Adobe Acrobat (*.pdf) format. The latest version of this document is available from the web site:

NOTE: To view files in PDF format (*.pdf), Adobe Acrobat Reader must be installed on your system. To download Adobe® Acrobat® Reader, go to the web site:
These requirements are listed in the Installation and User's Guide for HP Operations Manager Dependency Mapping Automation. Before installing HP Operations Manager Dependency Mapping Automation, make sure that your system meets these minimum requirements.
The Operations Manager HTTPS Agent for Windows is assigned free ports at random during start up. This may conflict with the ports required by a UCMDB or BAC installation located on the same Windows System.
SolutionStart up the UCMDB or BAC application before starting up the HTTPS Agent on the Windows System.
HPOM DMA is currently not supported on Windows 2008 platforms. When installing HPOM DMA on a proxy system running a Windows operating system in conjunction with a remote HPOM for UNIX installation on a PA-RISC 64-bit system, a system running a Windows 2003 operating system must be selected.
The HPOM DMA product installer requires free space in a temporary directory on the host system.
If the product installer cannot complete the installation due to insufficient space in the temp directory then use the following environment variables to point the temp directory to another directory with more space available and retry the installation:
On UNIX systems, the temporary directory is /tmp
.
By default on UNIX systems, if the temporary directory does not exist or has insufficient space, the installer attempts to use
$HOME
as the temporary space. You can define the environment variable IATEMPDIR
to specify an alternative
temporary location.
After installation, the HPOM DMA console cannot be opened in a web browser. The Tomcat log file in
<DataDir>/log/tomcat/ovtomcatb.out
indicates that there is a port conflict on port 8081.
Complete one of the following options:
There may be another program that is occupying this port. Change the others application's port and restart Tomcat by running the commands:
ovc -stop ovtomcatB
ovc -start
Change the port of the HPOM DMA Tomcat:
/opt/OV/nonOV/tomcat/b/bin/ovtomcatbctl -sethttpport <New Port Number>
ovc -stop ovtomcatB
ovc -start
UI launches into BAC 7.5 do not work.
SolutionFor UI launches into BAC 7.5 to work, apply the hotfix from the product media.
NOTE: If the hotfix is not included on your product media, request the following hotfix directly from the HP support organization:
hpdma-uilaunch Hotfix
To apply the hot fix, follow these steps:
hpdma-uilaunch.war
hpdma-uilaunch.zip
file from the product media to the hpdma-uilaunch.war
directory.hpdma-uilaunch.war
directory with all its contents to the <BAC-install-dir>\AppServer\webapps\
directory.NOTE: The scripts should be deployed automatically. If UI Launch is not available, restart the BAC server process.
hpdma-uilaunch.war\WEB-INF\ucmdbWebService.properties
The default URL takes the following form:
url=http://localhost:8080/axis2/services/UcmdbService
http://<BAC_or_UCMDB_hostname>:8080/hpdma-uilaunch
The deployment is successful if this URL shows a page with the message UI Launch is available
.
After HPOM DMA has been installed on either HP-UX or Sun Solaris, some pages do not respond when attempting to open them from the navigation pane on the left. The right content pane remains unchanged. The browser does not indicate that the page is being loaded.
The affected pages are:
The error appears only once after installation. After one of the following workarounds is performed, the error does not occur again.
There are two possible solutions:
Preferred SolutionTo make sure that the Connection page loads correctly:
Stop and start the trace server daemon using the command appropriate for your operating system:
HP-UX
/sbin/init.d/OVTrcSrv stop
/sbin/init.d/OVTrcSrv start
Solaris
/etc/init.d/OVTrcSrv stop
/etc/init.d/OVTrcSrv start
The the HPOM DMA console responds with an error page.
The Connection and Configuration page loading should now be successful.
Alternative SolutionTo make sure that the Connection page loads correctly:
/opt/OV/bin/ovc -stop ovtomcatB
/opt/OV/bin/ovc -start
The Connection page loading should now be successful.
The HPOM DMA Installer repair feature is not operational.
SolutionIf you need to repair your HPOM DMA installation, follow these steps:
NOTE: Do NOT execute the post Post-Uninstall Cleanup steps.
BAC and UCMDB, versions 7.00 and 7.50 cannot store multibyte characters in the UCMDB database. Synchronization of localized data is not currently supported.
SolutionThis is a limitation that is currently being addressed. Support of synchronization of localized data will be available in an update of BAC and UCMDB.
HP Operations Manager Dependency Mapping Automation is supported with HP Operations Manager 8.29 for UNIX and higher versions of HP Operations Manager. HPOM DMA requires UCMDB or BAC version 7.00 or 7.50.
