For a list of the HP ALM permissions you need to run a test in Sprinter, see the Prerequisites step in the How to Run a Manual Test in Sprinter task in the HP Sprinter User Guide (Getting Started chapter > How to Run a Manual Test in Sprinter task > Prerequisites step).
For a complete list of the supported technologies and their versions, refer to the HP Sprinter Product Availability Matrix.
The following are the prerequisites your system requires before installing Sprinter. If you run the Sprinter installation program and are missing these prerequisites, the installation program prompts you to install them.
A silent installation (or quiet installation) is an installation that is performed in the background. You can install Sprinter silently on your computer, without the need to navigate through setup screens or for user interaction. You can also install Sprinter on remote computers.
It is recommended to save any open files and close all open applications before running the silent installation.
Note: For performing a silent installation, you must be logged in as built-in Administrator or run the command prompt as Administrator.
To install Sprinter with all of the required prerequisites in silent mode:
<Path of extracted zip file>\Sprinter\EN\setup.exe /s
To install all of the Sprinter prerequisites (without Sprinter) in silent mode:
<extracted file path>\Sprinter\EN\setup.exe /InstallOnlyPrerequisite /s
Note: For Windows XP SP3 without .NET 3.5 or 4, the silent installation of the prerequisites may cause the machine to restart. If this happens, you need to manually begin the installation—it will not resume automatically.
To install Sprinter in silent mode using an MSI installation:
msiexec /qn /i "<Path of extracted zip file>\Sprinter\MSI\HP_Sprinter_12_00.msi" ADDLOCAL=Sprinter,SprinterALM
To install or modify Sprinter in silent mode with additional non-English languages:
msiexec /qn /i "<Path of extracted zip file>\Sprinter\MSI\HP_Sprinter_12.00.msi" ADDLOCAL=Sprinter,SprinterALM, <language>
The available languages are BrazilianPortugese (Brazilian Portuguese language resources), Chinese, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Russian, and Spanish. Using these options as values for language, the setup will install Sprinter with additional user interface languages and documentation.
Note: You cannot upgrade Sprinter in silent mode. To update your version of Sprinter, first uninstall the earlier version of Sprinter using the MSI installation with the standard MSI keywords. (Refer to Microsoft documentation for details.) Once you remove the old version, follow the instructions above to install the newer version.
Sprinter's Mirroring feature enables you to run your test on multiple machines simultaneously with different configurations.
A test that is run with Mirroring has a primary machine and secondary machines:
You can work with a maximum of five secondary machines in a run with mirroring.
Working with mirroring requires that you have the required number of available HP ALM licenses. The number of licenses you need depends on the number of secondary machines you want to use in your test.
To run a test with Mirroring you configure the secondary machines with the specific configuration whose compatibility you want to test. After you perform each user action on your primary machine, Sprinter replicates that user action on your secondary machines.
Install Sprinter on the secondary machines with the same version and patch level as it is installed on the primary machine.
After you install Sprinter on a secondary machine, confirm that the Sprinter Agent icon is displayed in the notification area of the task bar of the secondary machine. If the Sprinter Agent icon is not displayed in the notification area of the task bar, the Sprinter Agent can be launched from the start menu (All Programs > HP Sprinter > Sprinter Agent).
Once Sprinter is installed on a secondary machine and the Agent is running, that machine is available for use in a Mirroring test. You should not run Sprinter on the secondary machine. The Sprinter Agent is configured to run automatically when the machine starts. For details on configuring the Sprinter Agent, see the HP Sprinter User Guide.
To work with ALM version 11.00, you must install ALM 11.00 Patch 16 or higher. When working with ALM 11.52, ALM 11.52 Patch 2 or higher is required.
Internet Explorer 10 running Java applets is not supported.
When viewing the Sprinter online help with Internet Explorer 8, numbered or alphabetical lists may appear corrupted.
To ensure proper recording of WPF applications, Sprinter must launch the application. Alternatively, Sprinter may attach to a WPF application that is running with administrator privileges.
When scanning a Web site with an encoding other than UTF-8, the scanner may display some false positive results.
Sprinter and UFT (Unified Functional Testing) share a variety of system resources. Before installing Sprinter on a computer on which (UFT) is already installed, consider the following:
