This article explains the reason for the error message:

Windows could not start because of a general computer hardware configuration problem

Applies to: Portability Suite


Details

This error appears when attempting to boot a Windows 64-bit virtual machine on an ESX server that is not capable of hosting 64-bit guests.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, ensure that the host ESX server is capable of hosting 64-bit guests. (VT enabled)
