Environment

PlateSpin Protect 10.x and above
PlateSpin Forge 3.x and above
PlateSpin Migrate 9.x and above

Situation

When running an X2X conversion using Block-Level replication, the job goes into a recoverable error displaying a message similar to the following:

http://support.platespin.com/kb2/login.aspx?errorCodes=FailedToCommunicateWithBlockBasedComponent
Preparing Volumes for Copying
RequiresUserIntervention Preparing Volumes for Copying
1% Complete

Failed to establish connection to block based transfer component. Failed to start the Block Based Transfer service. Possible reasons: invalid date on the source, target or PowerConvert Server

This behavior can occur if one of the following is true:

  1. The time or date is inaccurate on the source, PowerConvert Server or the target server
  2. The Windows Event Logs of the source machine is full

Resolution

To resolve this issue the job must be aborted (job cannot recover).

If the cause was the date/time settings on one of the servers, correct the time and retry the conversion.

If the actual cause was the Windows Event Log (e.g. full), ensure to clear the event logs (Application and System) or set them to “Overwrite as needed”.

During the second job attempt the source machine will not rebooted as the Block-Level replication software still resides on the source.
