Conversion job hangs while configuring the operating system on target machine

Environment

PlateSpin Migrate
PlateSpin Protect

Situation

The conversion job hangs at Configuring the OS (99%).  The %WINDIR%\PlateSpin\Configuration\Data\log.txt file on the target machine shows that the target NICs cannot be enumerated with following error:

mm/dd/yyyy hh:mm:ss am/pm (######): WMI Connection error.
mm/dd/yyyy hh:mm:ss am/pm (######): Error in enumerating all the network cards.

However, performing a WMI query using WBEMTEST to list IP enabled NICs works fine.

Resolution

This behavior can occur if the source machine has antivirus application (Symantec, McAfee, TrendMicro, etc) installed. To resolve this issue so that WMI can properly enumerate the network cards on the target machine and complete the configuration step, the user should reboot the target machine into safe mode and temporarily disable all antivirus related services.

Once the PlateSpin Configuration Service has completed, the above services can be re-enabled.

Alternatively, the user can re-run the conversion job and use the Service Control Manager feature within the PlateSpin Job Configuration screen to temporarily disable services on the target server at startup.
