PlateSpin PowerRecon

Situation

This KB article will help you decide which PowerRecon license will best meet your needs.

PowerRecon can be licensed on per server or per use basis. Per Server licenses are used to inventory and perpetually monitor a limited number of servers. Per Use licenses are used to monitor servers for a limited period of time and are most suitable for one-time projects.

The Consolidation Planning Module add-on module provides advanced what-if modeling and optimization capabilities for PowerRecon. PowerRecon can be purchased with or without this module.

Resolution

Scenarios

Per Server

Suppose you have 100 servers or workloads that you would like to monitor continuously in the data center.

Recommended License: PR2-S100 (PowerRecon for 100 servers)

Formula:

  S = Number of Servers

  License: PR2-S<S>

Per Server with Consolidation Planning Module

Suppose you have server consolidation projects quarterly for 10% of 1,000 servers in your data center.

Recommended License: PR2-CPM-S100 (PowerRecon for 100 servers with the Consolidation Planning Module)

Formula:

  S = Number of Servers

  License: PR2-CPM-S<S>

Per Use with Consolidation Planning Module

Suppose you have a pilot server consolidation project for 250 servers and would like to monitor each server for 30 days.

Recommended License: PR2-CPM-U7500 (PowerRecon for 7500 server days with the Consolidation Planning Module)

Formula:

  S = Number of Servers

  D = Number of days

  License: PR2-CPM-U<S x D>

Per Use

Suppose you have a pilot server consolidation project for 250 servers but would like to use your own methodology for modeling and optimization.

Recommended License: PR2-U7500 (PowerRecon for 7500 server days)

Formula:

  S = Number of Servers

  D = Number of days

  License: PR2-U<S x D>
