Situation
During the file transfer step of a live transfer conversion, the job fails with the following error:
Failed. Unable to create the backup file stream for C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\SYMANT~1\VIRUSD~1\...\esrdef.bin. The system cannot find the path specified
Note: The above path may vary depending on the installation directory of Symantec Antivirus.
Resolution
This error will typically occur if Symantec Antivirus is updating its virus definitions during the live transfer conversion. During the virus definition update, Symantec Antivirus may create the esrdef.bin while PowerConvert is in the process of one of its file transfer passes. However, on a subsequent pass the file may no longer exist as it has been cleaned up by Symantec Antivirus which in turn results in the error above.
To resolve this issue, please ensure that the esrdef.bin file has been removed from the source machine and retry the conversion with Symantec Antivirus disabled (if possible).
