Environment

PlateSpin Migrate
PlateSpin Protect

Situation

During a conversion to a target VMware Infrastructure 3 host server, the following error may appear:

Unable to connect to VMware Virtual Infrastructure web-services on port [PORT] at [ADDRESS].
FailedToConnectToVMwareVimServer

Resolution

This error may appear if the VMware Management Interface is stopped.  To verify that the service is running, open a browser on the PlateSpin Server and try to connect to the VMware Virtual Center SDK Web Service (if installed and configured):

https://<server>:<port>/sdk/vimService.wsdl

-where <Server> is the IP address or hostname of your VMware Infrastructure 3 server and <port> is the port number that the service is running on (if required).

If a connection cannot be made to the above URL (or you do not have the VirtualCenter SDK Web Service installed), try restarting the VMware Management Interface by doing the following:

  • Log onto your VMware console directly
  • At the command prompt, type the following command:

    service mgmt-vmware restart
