Situation

During a conversion to a VMware Infrastructure 3 server, the following error appears:

Exception thrown when attempted to submit PowerOnVM_Task to the VMware ESX server:
Permission to perform this operation was denied

Hint: Try to use the VMware Virtual Infrastructure Client to resolve the problem



 

Resolution

The above error can occur if the VMware Infrastructure 3 server does not have a valid license applied. To prevent the error from occurring during a conversion, please verify the following:
  1. License source is setup correctly (to a server or a file)
  2. License type is setup correctly (to VMware ESX Server Starter or Standard and NOT as unlicensed).
