Environment

PlateSpin Migrate with Linux source server.

Situation

During a Linux conversion the job will fail at step 7.x (File-Transfer) and will display the following error messages:

Step 7.5: Failure in TranscodeString::transcode, invalid or incomplete multibyte or wide character

Step 7.6: Timed out while trying to create a connection to [IP:PORT]; started attempt at [numeric value]; gave up at [numeric value]

Resolution

This error will occur if the source Linux machine contain a file (or files) with multibyte (A multibyte character or doublebyte is a character whose bit representation fits into one or more bytes and is a member of the extended character set) or wide characters in its name.

In order to resolve this issue please locate the file (or files) with the multibyte or wide characters, rename them and try the conversion job again.
